Also added Allegiance Transferal Cannonade, and, since it didn't make much sense without another card kicking about, I added Dizzying Drake.
For Challenge # 031. Effects are cards you set aside in a separate pile of 10 cards (not your sideboard). When a card asks for you to play an effect, you flip one of them face up. If you have no more effects, you shuffle them and put them face down in a pile again.
I intend effects to be drafted, probably taking up the token slot or basic land slot of the deck its in. Also, the rules state that if you don't have enough effects, you may put basic lands in your effect deck, but they don't do anything when the resolve. Also, also, there's no upper limit to the amount of cards you can play in your effect deck.
Granted, drafting only one effect and having to shove 9 non-effects in your effect deck would kind of suck... but imagine if it flipped up just when you needed it...
Made specifically so that Allegiance Transferal Cannonade made a bit more sense.
Ha! I beat you on Battlefields (Tombs of Arbintok) by a single minute! Jeez... mark that up as a real potential new card type in the future, eh?
I'm pretty sure that, if they did it, they'd probably do something radically different than both of our ideas. There's a lot of wiggle room there.
I've also designed some cards previously that could be a new permanent type.
Island Turtle, which is concepted as a creature so big creatures can attack it.
Loyalty Lands from Gentlemen Magicians, which use the loyalty mechanic, but are otherwise not as mythic as planeswalkers.
Desolation which is a bit silly, but for maximum "wow" factor I didn't give a permanent type to at all :)
I think we're unlikely to suggest anything that really should be a new permanent type, but I think it's very interesting to try :)
For now, Planar Boots and Fury Grounds.
ETA: OK, if jmg and I both designed almost the same concept for Battlefield, maybe there's something in it (at least, an appealing idea, even if it wouldn't work as a major part of the game)! :)
For Challenge # 031
The rules for this are very not finished, I'm not sure if they'll ever work, but I thought it was an idea worth inviting suggestions about.
The idea is something like a World Enchantment, something like a Planechase Plane, or something like Raging River.
I think creatures should be able to move to a different battlefield somehow, but I'm not sure exactly how.
People! Don't complain about the challenge, rise to it! I admit, Link, that's a heck of a doozy, but we've dealt with harder. Adding Tombs of Arbintok and thinking of another.
Created for Challenge # 031. Battlefields are specific fields of battle where side fighting can occur. Players assign creatures to either the Tombs (in this isntance) or to the main battlefield (originally called "in play"). Creatures can only block other creatures at battlefields that they are assigned to... though, any player can block any creature to help deal with the amount of creatures that got a boost from Rushing River technology.
Admittedly, that's probably not the best execution. I'm sure that if I worked on this, I'd find a better way to do it. I also tossed around the idea of the battlefield having a pseudo-loyalty counter thingy going on, with the person who got the needed amount of counters claiming the battlefield, but that's a different pile of problems.
For Challenge # 031
I don't think "planesalkwer equipment" quite deserves its own permanent type, but I think it could do from flavour grounds.
I don't think there's enough design space in it either, but I could be wrong.
I'm not sure if planequipment should give a loyalty boost, or if so, how to word it. It makes sense as a default, like how most creature equipment gives a little P or T boost, plus another effect. But I'm not sure how to word it. I think, ideally, it would give a static boost to the planeswalker loyalty, perhaps "add 2 counters when this is attached, remove 2 when it becomes unnatached", but that seems fiddly.
Yeah, personally I think this challenge might be a little hard. After all, it was like 15 years before Plansewalkers showed up, and in that time they dropped interrupt, so they actually removed card types before adding a truly new type (kinda not counting the removal of Enchant Creature as well...)
I'll add the Mutant type so it's more realistic.
This was created for Challenge # 030.
So a loaf of bread can take down Grizzly Bears? I'd like to see that happen. :)
Another:
Late
I've heard that the front side is better, but personally I like the back. Also I just kind of ignored the rules and ran with this one, the only important thing is that you can Grok it, all of this stuff will probably never see print.
