Ah, trap cards. Yes, I considered introducing this kind of thing as my new card type.
When I mentioned the similarities between our 4 designs on Sorrow's card, I skipped Alex's design, since it was a bit more like enchantment split cards with some extra functionality on changing the split. That being said, yeah, we are dragging Alex down to our level. :)
Oh, as an alternative idea which I think is cool, but adds more rules: Instead of casting this card for
face down...:
(Cast this spell face down and declare it a goal. You may pay any amount of mana, and for each
you spent on casting ~, put a mystery counter on ~. If you are attacked by four or more creatures in the same turn, you may turn ~ face up, but only if it has three or more mystery counters on it).
In other words, now we can make goals of any generic casting cost, and can also hide the goals cost. Even, occasionally, bluffing with a goal.
I find it funny how various designers keep paralleling each other on this project. I came up with Goals, then checked MDC to see that Camruth had designed Agendas. His agenda and my goal seemed sufficiently different, so I figured I'd just post my card. You come around and submit Challenges, which is different than both of our cards, but obviously in the same mindspace. Weird.
If I'm to take anything away from this, it's that, if they make a new card type, it will probably end up being either battlefields or challenge/goal/agenda. Both ideas just keep popping up.
An ongoing agenda is like an ongoing scheme - stays around until you play another agenda. This would still work as a one and done - just drop cost a little.
I was just playing around with the design space a bit. Very similar to Sorrow's challenge type and related to Alex' Strategy a little and too your own Goal card.
I had a lot of trouble with this but I made The Silent Growth
If two or more players meet a challenge at the same time the effect will apply to all of them.
Since no one quite picked up on this one in first pass, I figured it was fair game to add one more to the pile.
But I'm the Victim Here!
For Challenge # 031. This was the reminder text for "Goal" that I removed because it took up too much space. Common Goals would have it, but not this uncommon goal which has enough extra words to make the text too small:
(You may cast this face down and declare it a goal for
. If you are attacked by four or more creatures in the same turn, you may turn ~ face up.)
Huh. Well, if the ability is only going off once, this card is overcosted. If this is operating like an emblem, this may be too good. I think I like these cards as one and done, however. Activate, then do something, then put the agenda in your graveyard, clearing up the play space.
Actually, this makes sense to be a different type. Unlike a lot of people's suggestions for emblems, which often end up like super-powered enchantments, you wouldn't want your opponent to destroy this until you had a chance to fulfill it. Pulling the card out of the game after you cast it lets your opponent know what you're trying to do, and doesn't let them monkey with it, unless they can monkey with the activation (for example, casting Nevermore in response and getting lucky). The second part of the card is more sorcery than enchantment anyway.
this particular one, yeah probably but I should prolly create another that shows what I was thinking better. The basic idea was a scheme card you have to cast and then meet requirements to activate.
