Strictly better than Nemesis Mask. (Except for the legendary clause, I guess. Although Nemesis Mask is one of the cards where you least care about duplicates anyway...) I do like the implementation of the flavour of being a redshirt. I feel it should perhaps make the creature more vulnerable too, such as "Whenever combat damage is dealt to equipped creature, destroy it."
I think Venser, the Sojourner has found his love.
Added The Dread Helmsman, Maroney. I'll come back to add a piece of The Legacy later.
For Challenge # 048. Something that was skipped with the first Weatherlight were actual sailors, which I tried to correct by giving this ship a helmsman. Maroney used to belong to a ghost pirate ship which the crew fought in the clouds. The Ghost Ship was destroyed, but it gave The New Weatherlight hell. Maroney's a genius of a helmsman, even in death, and when the crew plundered the Ghost Ship, they took Maroney with them, retooled him, and chained him to the helm.
The first ability on Maroney is supposed to represent how he protects you from curses. The second ability... I wanted something that turned Maroney sideways and felt like the whole ship went into a different realm. So I flickered your field. At first, it picked up everything, but I wasn't happy that there was little reason for Maroney to remain black, so I added the +1/+1 counter, -1/-1 counter thing. I know they never print both in the same block. Maybe this block is an exception.
No problem. I can see I'm going to need my own entry tonight to swing us away from Star Trek's influence. ;)
Nice card, btw. I'd play this card all day long. Though, you may want 'dies' instead of 'leaves the battlefield'. This and a few flicker effects will cause a blowout. Maybe that's fine. It does cost 6...
For Challenge # 048.
For Challenge # 048.
I created Red Shirt of Sacrifice and Loredata, Duranium Golem.
for Challenge # 048
Got the whole star trek idea stuck in my head now, thanks jm!!!!!
for Challenge # 048
Inspired by jm's star trek comment :-)
@Alex: I figured adding a piece to the Legacy was a natural extention of the challenge. The pieces of the Legacy were rather random... I think Wizards just slapped 'Legendary' on artifacts they already had planned and called it a day. Still, it's an interesting challenge to try to intentionally create a seemingly random Legendary artifact that feels like a part of the new Legacy. Bit of a mind stretch.
@Link: You really don't need to know a damn thing about the Weatherlight story. The ship went kablooie, and everyone, except Karn, died (though, I never read Apocalypse. I suppose some of them may have survived).
If you're having a hard time wrapping your head around The Weatherlight, just imagine the same plot with a different crew. A new Firefly crew, or a new Star Trek crew should jump a few ideas in your head.
Well, unlike Capsize, he requires a down-payment, and he's vulnerable as soon as you pay 5. That's probably much more fair. Dangerous when you have ten mana... but what isn't?
I'm currently imagining a skyhound is a breed of dogs, with the same naming convention as elk-hounds and wolf-hounds; trained to hunt and bring down the sky.
Probably, even though he's just a purple puppy. (Thought I had set that, actually)
Aw, man. I know absolutely nothing about this part of the story.
