Well, the (mechanical) idea was that it draws a very limited number of cards from exile before exploding - but yeah; I acknowledge that risk.
Good point. I really like the card, but it gets confusing if the graveyard and library are just two different ways of being dead, rather than graveyard being "gone" and exile being "gone for good".
It's probably most powerful with something like Temporal Mastery. Admittedly, that's a 5-mana card and a 7-mana card paired together, and you need to empty your hand first, and you'd still lose two life a turn, but it's good when you do. I'm surprised I couldn't find anything cheaper this might be broken with: maybe Time Spiral, but that's broken with lots of stuff :)
I still don't like cards that make retrieving things from exile this easy.
Vitenka made Peek beyond the Gates)
Powered down.
I made Void Knowledge.
For Challenge # 054.
Created (((Exile's Fate))), do you exile the person in question to a life of comfort or hardship? Do you secretly protect them or send assassins to end their threat permanently?
For Challenge # 054
Colour justification: Forbidden knowledge; power in madness etc. etc. Also, black get NICE pain-tutors, and blue just plain gets to mess with your draw step. Kinda dredge-like too.
Anyway - probably horribly broken; I'm thinking using it to recycle cards cast from graveyard is just too good. Hopefully the temptation to abuse it will lead into its downside. Maybe the activation should cost mana too?
Blue gets both the exile bit, and the "Every other turn bit" (phasing, tidal) so pure blue makes sense to me.
(Blue also gets large overcosted creatures with downsides and drawbacks...)
For exiling cards off the top of your library, mostly. I know that drawbacks like that commonly appear on any color... but I figured that doesn't mean that white or black shouldn't be used to represent the drawback. Red's there because of the random thing, though, I admit, this probably could have been any color combination at that rate. I could even see this costing

and being some sort of wacky tidal Leviathan.
Also, why w/b? To me it mostly feels green, although I think it could be a g/x hybrid
I like the even/odd concept. I tried to think of something similar but it didn't quite work.
I wonder if we can make the two different modes slightly more interesting though. I'm trying to think of something where switching might inherently be useful, but I can't quite think of anything.
Added Gravegooping Gorger. I almost cheated, with a cost of

, which technically fit the challenge, but kind of walked around the hybrid restriction. Luckily,

seemed to make more sense for the mechanic anyway.
For Challenge # 054. Jack's right... it's too easy to exile a pile of cards and take advantage of that. I aimed to instead focus on whether you had an odd or even number of cards in your exile zone. You can still abuse this card with instant speeed exiling tricks, but you'd only get to switch back and forth between his two modes.
Wow, that is silly. I'm a fan.
OK, let me start with Dealer's Choice
Note that it's hard to do things like "gets +1/+1 for each card exiled" or "if you have at least N cards exiles" because cards aren't normally balanced for how many cards they exile and you have things like Arc-Slogger.
Open to suggestions for a better name. I'm looking for something that fits the mechanics, but with connotations of arranging the rules rather than bypassing them :)
