What if there's a tie?
Added Warped Ascent... though I stretched what it means to be 'hybrid' to do it (i.e., I cheated).
For Challenge # 054. Not a Hybrid card, I know, but I got this wacky idea in my head, and I wanted to put it out there. The important part, as far as this challenge is concerned, is another way to deal with the 'this number could get too big too fast' problem, by using what Threshold and Metalcraft do... a tipping point that make the card bigger, but not scalable.
I was thinking exactly that after seeing a discussion about +X/-X on another card. I'd rather not complicate the card, but +X/-X is perfect for R/B, so maybe.
It may sound crazy, but +X/-X? This gets it away from damage to break up the easy Mogg Maniac combo, and offers the enticing reward of a huge power boost, but only if you have something with at least as much toughness already.
There's still a potential combo in activate Spikeshot Goblin (or trigger Murderous Redcap) and respond with this, but at least it's more mana than Mogg Maniac, and the timing is a lot more fickle.
Doh! I knew I forgot something important, thanks! :) OK,
is reasonable, although ideally it'd be something more specifically rb than damage.
This is a very clever way to care about the number of exiled cards without scaling madly with Arc-Slogger etc.
(Aww... and now I'm getting nostalgic for my/qqzm's old absurd Arc-Slogger/Synod Sanctum/March of the Machines/Quicksilver Elemental deck. It didn't do anything 9 games out of 10, but the occasional game where it plumped your deck onto the table was so worth it. Curse you, linked abilities rules.)
Once again not hybrid, but otherwise makes sense. Could be
without too much of a stretch.
Good thought. Fails to meet the challenge's criteria, but that could be fixed by giving it a mana cost of
.
And Burn to Memory and Oubliemancer.
For Challenge # 054
I'm not sure how this should be balanced, but keying off a couple of other people's "every player" ideas, I thought there should be a mill card.
For Challenge # 054
And I forgot the second-most canonical "safe to have X open-ended" card, creature-kill. This is really weak unless you have a lot of ways to exile stuff, but I didn't want to clutter it up with "+1" clauses...
Entered with Form of Memories Lost.
Not sure if this technically fits the terms of Challenge # 054, but it cares about the number of exiled creature cards with power 1 you have versus the number of exiled creature cards with power 2, vs 3, etc.
It's probably still a bit too good with something like Manipulate Fate to sculpt it into Emrakul. But, well, so is Polymorph.
Reminds me of Forbidden Crypt. Nice self-imploding clause as a safety valve.
Nice! Reminds me of Eleventh Rite of Eharot, but more precise requirements does indeed allow this to be cheaper. I like it.
Another good plan. I kind of want this to cost
... but almost does in a white-blue, white-red, blue-red or mono-blue deck... that's a lot of options.
I like the way "revealing N" is tied to the number of exiled cards: that's something that scales with more exiled cards but without being broken.
