I like it :)
Blue. Blue blue and blue. Also, blue. And Red. But mainly blue.
For Challenge # 060
I'm sure I've seen that musical. Ok; let's discard the obvious, and concentrate on the important. It's FASHION! They're all wearing fashionable dresses, and shouldn't every force of archers be dressed that way? Of course they should!
Colour of image is mostly orange and blue; so clearly the card is green for contrast.
Green is the colour of envy - and that's not a word Magic has previously used! (Whee! Free association is a fun mad thing!)
Ok, cool - what should this card actually do? "When creatures fight, the prettiest wins" is... probably a bit too Kangaroo Court even for me. Keeping that as flavour text though.
... can't think of anything.
Ok; internet save me now! ... Envy is a class of boat? Well, learn something new. But I don't think that helps me.
Come on, brain, think. What does "Enchanted creature has Envy" do? Well, envy makes people small and petty, it makes them snipe other people... (Snip! Archers! ... but green shouldn't usually get pingers. Ah; but green gets OTHER forms of ping, and other archer effects. So, and done.)
And Greater Soulgorger
For Challenge # 060
It reminded me of an energy creature feeding on stuff that touches it, probably represented by the orbiting red charges.
I really couldn't decide on a colour for this so I went five-colour. Does this obviously fit one colour?
For Challenge # 060
Still death. (It's like still life; but with a skull). Well, that's the card named.
Now; what does such a thing do?
The internet thinks it means; well, pictures of vegetable suicide.
http://www.behance.net/gallery/Still-death/294420
"Destroy target plant"? a bit too specific to be a card in real-magic.
Oooh - now i'm thinking about the whole "Protection should be two parts - Invulnerability and Avoidance"
Can we split deathtouch up the same way? We can! So there we go. It's not as good as "Gains deathtouch" which.. appears not to ever have actually existed as an enchantment. Huh. Basilisk Collar says it's dirt cheap though; so we'll make this as cheap as possible.
Started. Aeyell, of the Marid, Captivating Tome, Interphased Soul, A Taste of Time.
Continued. Still Death and Envious Courtiers
For Challenge # 060
It's... a tower of Cheeseclocks! Like cheescake; but timier!
Well; that's my flavourtext written. Now; what does it DO? I haven't done a sorcery yet; so that's one arbitary contraint added. Oooh; I just had a STRANGE idea for "Ok, does that guy have a combat trick I didn't think of?"
Let's go with it. Card is the far side of 'un' in result; but I like it anyway.
For Challenge # 060
A meditating sillohuette harbouring many colours.
Let's go the obvious sunburst then. Add flavourtext from Les Miserable and done. Minimalist; but I quite liked this one.
For Challenge # 060
As others point out; it's good Omens. I think we should concentrate on it being a couple of people from entirely different backgrounds; lounging around reading a book.
Surely quite a captivating book, then.
Blegh; not proud of this one.
Cost wise; I just took Sea Singer and turned
into
. Added an activation cost; because it looks more powerful that way.
Ha! I admit, I pulled forward this Gorey illustration for it's sheer weirdness.
Yeah, I had no idea what to do with this at first, but I think the challenge benefits from a couple of weird ones that invite more creative interpretations.
For Challenge # 060
Hmm.. Looks like Doctor Manhattan. Blue firey guy with brain for a heart glaring at you; while being orbited by red firey trail things.
Ok; that's GOT to be a djinn. Let's go for the classic "Make a wish, and then I will eat your heart" version of a djinn. (Indeed Djinn of Wishes kinda looks similar to this guy.)
Well; wish in magic terms means "Take a card from outside the game" And eat your heart means... treachery. Blue does treachery through controlling stuff; so let's go this way.
Ok; and the internet finds me: http://www.djinnnames.com/ ... wow.
And.. ugh. You can't target in costs. Can I "Choose an"?
4WB -> 2WWBB
Hm. It's probably better to do one creature and one token rather than two tokens, just to save on token space. (There's often angel tokens anyway, less often demons.) But I don't really like the asymmetry.
OK, yeah, this is similar to broodmate dragon, but I think a little better because of the protection, ok, let's send the mana cost up to 2WWBB.
Doh! Any suggestions for a non-duplicate name?
I ideally want connotations of an alliance which is unlikely or incongruous, but not that there's something wrong with it.
Ha! I admit, I pulled forward this Gorey illustration for it's sheer weirdness. That, and the picture of a little girl alone in the woods with an axe in her back and footsteps leading away was evocative... but I didn't want to see the Magic cards that would have spawned from that one.
I like what's going on here, but I regret to inform you that there's already a card called Unlikely Alliance. It also has very odd art. :D
Well, it's pretty close to Broodmate Dragon... one colorless flipped to a colored mana, but it really is borderline fair. One could even say that being a sorcery is worse than being a creature (since this is both more vulnerable to Unsummon and doesn't combo with Unsummon).
I don't have a real problem with "Here's a picture of something you recognize, make a picture out of it, or in spite of it." I think that's kind of fun, too. But it's kind of it's own challenge. You know, next time I do an Art Challenge, maybe I'll do that exactly and see what kind of responses we get?
And I forgot the lava one: Rain of Fire
I'm not sure why, but I love the mystic knight flavour for this picture.

(((Unlikely Alliance)))
For Challenge # 060
I wasn't at all sure what could be going on in this picture, so I went with "unlikely alliance".
I wasn't sure what had been done before, but I felt bi-tribal was a good spot, letting lords of either support both.
I wasn't sure about +1/+1, but I felt it needed something above the bare ability, and that wasn't too strong at 4-cost.
