I don't like it.
More accurately, I love the effect (in fact I created a very similar card for Ankh-Duat), but I hate that it is
. There is absolutely nothing red about this card! If I had to make it multicolor, I'd make it
(Vigean Intuition, Coiling Oracle) or
(Grisly Salvage), but
is certainly not a combination that would com to mind.
Compare Borborygmos Enraged, Exploding Borders, Frenzied Tilling, Ground Assault, Vengeful Rebirth...
As for rarity, being a somewhat worse Cultivate, it can certainly be a common, though it'd probably be an uncommon if the block had a graveyard mechanic like Delve
Thank you!
"What's the intended rarity of this?"
I have no idea, I completely suck at choosing rarities :) I'd guess strong common or weak uncommon depending on the limited environment?
Oooh! Very nice! Vitenka was just asking last week for a 2-mana version of Cultivate. This is pretty close. Minus the whole getting to choose factor, of course, but that's a good justification for the low cost :)
What's the intended rarity of this?
There was Colossal Might before that, which was pretty strong, although Ghor-Clan Rampager is pretty much always better unless you've got triggers on casting instants.
As a step back on Ghor-Clan Rampager due to hybrid rather than gold, this seems perfect. As a step down from Predator's Strike except in monored, though, it feels less good.
For Challenge # 087
What's a Gruul-esque accelerant? I decided, one that helps you curve out into big four and five cost spells, while giving you a bit of a chance of smoothing out your mana to cast RR and GG spells, but not really fixing your mana otherwise.
I nearly made this "reveal the top N, put the basic lands revealed onto the battlefield" but decided that was too swingy for Gruul.
Domri's Stomp and Domri's Expedition
For Challenge # 087
I love Domri as a character (yay Gruul) even though I often don't like Planeswalkers that much.
I try to avoid overusing hybrid mana, but for a two-colour two-cost planeswalker seen on Ravnica, it felt appropriate.
The combination of abilities may not be quite right, but it's one that feels quite R/G. Both have had very similar spells before, and a planeswalker's signature spell is a time to push it a bit aggressively.
Ghor-Clan Rampager upped the stakes for +/+ and trample a lot. I could have made this stronger, but I tried to keep it a bit tamer.
I have both Gatherer and Magiccards.info as quick searches in Chrome. (Right-click the URL bar and "Edit search engines".) I generally use Gatherer normally, but their search URLs include square brackets which are much harder to paste into Multiverse comments :) So I tend to use Gatherer for searches where all I'm going to want to paste in is the resulting cards' names, whereas if I want to paste the results of the actual search I'll use MCI.
(It is possible to link to a URL containing square brackets. You have to use the link format where you enter [link text][1], and then on a new line at the end of the comment enter [1]:my_long_url.)
Nice challenge. I like Link's idea of making a signature spell in each of the two colours of a two-colour planeswalker; I'll have a go at that sometime in the next day or two.
I like it. Is the Knight creature type intended to be intentionally weird?
MagicCards.Info 1) search options are much easier to fill in. in Gatherer everything has to be typed in in Advanced screen, even colors and types. 2) better results layout. i usually view as spoiler, which shows all results in one page. 3) just feels faster, less clustered. Gatherer is stuck in the past, was designed for 800x600 screens.
And also Karn's Servitor.
For Challenge # 087.
I made Ashiok's Awakening and Ashiok's Reaper.
Personally the major appeal is that a) you don't need to do complicated messy stuff to alter a search and b) you can have MagicCards.Info in your browser search bar.
Gatherer also makes it way hard to do search involving hybrid or phyrexian mana (although it doesn't allow for search by card marks). Amusingly, neither site is any good at all with search combining color and color identity criteria (there is no way to find monocolor green cards that have multicolor identity, for example).
Out of curiosity, what's the appeal of magiccards.info over the Gatherer?
There are four cards for Ajani, five for Jace, four for Liliana, four for Chandra, and three for Garruk, so they're all out. There are nine named after Nicol Bolas, but only two signature spells, so he's fair game.
The list of all other planeswalker types is: Bolas, Domri, Elspeth, Gideon, Karn, Koth, Nissa, Ral, Sarkhan, Sorin, Tamiyo, Tezzeret, Tibalt, Venser, and Vraska. Venser also have five, though some of them were named after him before he was a planeswalker...
Signature spells as in Liliana's Reaver, Disciple of Bolas, Ajani's Chosen...
