For Challenge # 100 and based on Link's set Anydria, the plane without Islands. I was thinking about what sorts of things could separate Anydria from normal planes, when it occurred to me that, without blue, no one would ever lie on anydria. Red and Green are too forward to care about lying anyway. Black would gladly lie, if it knew how, but not being able to lie, it mostly focuses on poorly timed, inconvenient truths. Without blue, white would be trapped. It wouldn't lie, but it would seek to withhold state secrets through bureaucracy. In other words, it wouldn't need to tell you the truth if you didn't know how to ask the right question.
Originally, this card was supposed to reflect a world without lying by forcing an opponent to just reveal named cards. But Magic isn't really good with the honor system, and Link's set isn't an un-set. So instead, I decided to make the penalty for lying steep - you lose the game. It may be over the top, but I do like the idea of having the occasional contest with an opponent you don't quite believe. Is the risk worth losing the creature?
First submission: Kobold Musketeer for Time Reversal. My first submissions:
For Challenge # 100, as an alternate card for qqzm's set Time Reversal, taking inspiration from Kobold Drill Sergeant and Kobold Overlord. The overlord even gave me the name. 'The Oath of the Kobold Musketeers' indeed. Sometimes I wish I could go back in time and 'fix' Legends...
Also, how could I not design this card after the word 'Koboldcraft' hit my head?
I like this a lot. I would totally play it. It would be pretty good for faeries, too, I think. A free Spellstutter Sprite when they cast their creature spell seems good.
At instant speed, that ability is even easier to achieve than Tithe would be. But the effect is minor enough, and the drawback is real. So this looks like a 'good job' to me.
I like this idea, though, I got to admit, the word 'infiltrator' makes me expect to see someone sneak into the bazaar and disrupt it somehow. Maybe makes the opponent discard two cards, but you draw the cards? I fear I might just be designing cards as opposed to responding to your card, though.
Thank you Alex, by the way, for kicking this off. I've been rather sick lately, and just couldn't bring myself to do more than the bare minimum. Feeling much better now. Cards are on their way.
Creating two cards for Time Reversal, I made Hunting Clique as a Hunting Grounds reference, and Bazaar Infiltrator as a Bazaar of Baghdad reference.
Adding one more alternative cardset to the options:
I'll come back and do some cards for the Community Set in a little while. (I already threw a bunch of ideas at Anhydria's suggestions thread, so I should probably let other people have a go at that :) )
Made just one card for the Community Set: Lofty Sanctifier.
(Oops, I managed to forget that qqzm's fondness for Hunting Grounds is in fact pretty obvious in Time Reversal, by the way he created an entire cycle of homages to it! Oh well, never mind...)
Thanks, Alex. :)
it would complete the cycle including Gainsay and Flashfreeze, where each card incrementally encompasses more color groups, yet keeping the same cost.
it would go in the second or third set in the block due to storyline reasons.
I thought going full Skullclamp was probably too much.
Cool. An Oculus that turns into... "half a Skullclamp" when it dies.
Nifty! It's a great design, and I don't think I recall seeing it before.
I made Ruby Phoenix and Unstable Fault for Mirroria, and Defy the Unreal and Spiritual Cage for So Ling. Mirroria Since I made cards for two sets, I'll mention two sets:
To kick things off, I'll suggest three cardsets you might like to design for.
Done.
