I'm not sure. I can see this going in two directions.
(i) Tone it down. Eg. make it "B. Name a card. Target player reveals their hand and discards a card with that name. If they do, they lose 3 life." That seems interesting and not inappropriate for the name. Does it already exist? If not, it should. (ii) Embrace the griefer-ness, keep the large swing, and increase the cost a bit.
I'm not sure how it compares to Blightning. Maybe it even has to cost MORE because it will usually miss, but in a dedicated discard deck, it's basically "blightning but worse" and blightning was pretty awful to start with...
Good point, yes, it's very easy to follow up a turn 1 Duress/Thoughtseize/Ostracize/etc with turn 2 this, at which point it's pretty brutal: a lot nastier than Hymn to Tourach, for example, and indeed even nastier than Blightning. So something ought to change - maybe just making this 3 mana as a more direct alternative to Blightning.
Since you're having to pay 4 mana per time around the loop, I don't think it's broken. There is enough upside over Shock that I'd be inclined to either make it instant-2-to-creature-only or sorcery-2-to-creature-or-player (or if you want instant and hitting players, bump it to 2 mana, like Punishing Fire).
I submit Undying Evil based on Viviana's Resuscitation #2, since wizards happen to have already done the work for me in that case :)
Thank you! Yeah, that was the plan, that the upside is big enough to be exciting, but difficult enough this isn't just a free fireball.
I wasn't sure if it should be "target creature" or "target creature or player" -- I thought it made sense to tone it down a bit, but if it hit players, it would be an endless combo with Chandra's Phoenix, I'm not sure if that's cool or broken.
Thank you for liking the name!
And yeah, I'm not sure on the strength. My best guess is that it's too swingy for limited (especially at common), and would be almost as interesting if it was just "for each name, discard a card with that name". But I don't have good sense of discard spells either.
It could form a devastating discard deck, with Thoughtseize, Peek into Hell #2 and Blightning, and there's lots of one-mana thoughtseize variants (including Gitaxian Probe), enough to ensure a good turn 1 and fill in the gaps. But that would have to be in modern, and I don't know if it's more broken than other modern decks :) Certainly very griefer-y :)
That's really interesting actually. I've played on DOTP2013 with Chandra's deck quite a lot, which has quite a few phoenices of various kinds. Playing with that deck helps drive it home that, unsurprisingly, phoenices are rather good at coming back. So this is interesting because you could potentially trigger that buyback ability several times from just one Phoenix card. I like it.
Nice evocative name! It inspired my Peek into Hell #2.
Thank you.
I think the biggest difference is that it can't copy creatures at all, not even artifact creatures. (And surely costs two land drops, not one?) But as I say, even so, I wasn't entirely happy with it. Maybe it should say "you don't control" to be closer to the spirit of the original card, and make it a lot less reliable?
Nifty! Might be a little bit too much stronger than Sculpting Steel / Phyrexian Metamorph / Clone, costing "one land drop" rather than

. I guess it arrives tapped as well.
Added Makes Me Stronger, based on Viviana's Resuscitation #2. Oh, amuseum didn't link to it here. Well, consider that amuseum's link as well.
For Challenge # 099, and based on Viviana's Resuscitation #2. I hate to 'explain the joke', but if it isn't obvious, "Makes Me Stronger" is the second half of the Nietche quote that begins with "What does not kill me." To balance that quote out, I looked around for another Nietche quote to adapt, and took this one, also from Twilight of the Idols:
"Man believes that the world itself is filled with beauty — he forgets that it is he who has created it. He alone has bestowed beauty upon the world — alas! only a very human, an all too human, beauty."
Into an appropriate flavor text. My first thought was to assign this to Momir Vig, but there's not a lot of forests in Ravnica, and I didn't want to make this blue... I figured it was okay, however, if Nath, always obsessed with beauty, let a green-white spell exist in his repertoire.
You know, Green-White was another combination I was looking into for this effect, so good on ya. Something about the whole "That creature's power is not the same as it once was. That's not normal, and I'm going to fix it." kind of fits these two colors.
Interesting, and potentially very powerful.
Created Mirage colourshifting Regenesis #2 from GU to U. and Vesuvan Outpost shifting it from GU to colourless.
Viviana's Resuscitation based on Dangerous Revivification
Oops. Yes, that wasn't meant to be a cheap Zombify. I should add "if he or she did".
And, yes, it does happen to remove a Darksteel Colossus permanently, through a quirk of that thing's wording.
Added Phoenix Flame #2 and Peek into Hell and Dangerous Revivification both colour-shifting Regenesis #3
