It definitely makes sense, since
gets things like Boros Battleshaper, Odric, and Master Warcraft.
I like the symmetry of each of the first three abilities giving +1/+0.
I think we've seen "target blocks target" in green, eg. Hunt Down, Feral Contest, but that's probably been eclipsed by fight now. It maybe makes sense in RW (especially on a card which gives first strike), I'm not certain.
I created Martial Command.
Created for Challenge # 123.
As with all entries to this challenge, the first question is, is that last ability gold? I think it'd be odd to see "target creature blocks target creature" in any single colour. (Green and sometimes blue get "target creature blocks this turn if able", but this is more specific and more powerful.) You could defend it in a wide variety of colour combinations but I think RW is as good as any.
I wasn't sure if all of the first three modes should have +1/+0 in them, but given Swift Justice, Rise to the Challenge/Skillful Lunge, Uncanny Speed and suchlike, I think it needs it if this is to be worth the 2 mana.
It's still arguable that this should actually be uncommon rather than rare. Power-level-wise this would probably even be fine at common (all the abovementioned cards are common), but I think the complexity means it should be at least uncommon. I've only put it at rare because all the other commands are.
Spicy! Reminds me of Daybreak Coronet, though the restriction is slightly different.
I like it!
I made Spellwrought Arms, a white effect with a blue drawback.
See Challenge # 122.
@Jack I had the same problem when designing my command! I think you came up with a much better solution than I did.
It's a tough card to cost. Early Harvest is 3 mana, Vitalize is 1, To Arms! is 2 with a cantrip. (Rude Awakening was rather more expensive but had other things going on.) Creeping Corrosion is 4, and a slightly-restricted Diabolic Tutor is probably 3 mana in gold.
So if you're getting a 4-mana effect and a 3-mana effect, how much should that cost? Probably 5, I suppose.
4GW -> 2GW
Thank you both!
I had no idea on cost, I tried to keep the abilities balanced but it was hard, and I wasn't sure how much they'd cost. I was also scared of accidentally creating a "free" or mana-accelerant spell, especially a tutor... I will try it at a lower cost for now.
Yes, that's a clever find for a
effect that's not
or
or
.
The card overall looks about
more expensive than I thought it'd be though.
I think that effect makes perfect sense in
.
And Selesnya Command, can I make a GW tutor?
Wow, finding unambiguously gold effects is really quite hard. There's lots, but few that feel like ONE effect, not two effects stapled together...
See Challenge # 123.
I'm really not sure about that last ability, but I was looking for effects divided up between colours. Every colour gets a tiny bit of own-colour search sometimes. White gets tutor for artifacts and enchantments. Blue gets instants and sorceries and creatures with flash. Red maybe gets sorceries? Green gets lands and creatures. Black gets everything but not usually a subset of that.
No-one gets planeswalkers, which makes sense, but Ajani, Mentor of Heroes suggests it might be G or W.
Can I put that together to be "non-permanent"? And then I added other effects which seemed on theme for G, W and G/W...
:)
@Alex Is it? I really wouldn't remember >>;; (and no I don't count my own challenges there)
Heh, Circeus - this isn't even the first challenge for which you happen to have preemptively answered it with an entire cycle some time in advance, is it?! :)
Oh yes, very nice. I like that it fits the flavour more specifically than just "any effects in those two colours" which many commands have to fall back on.
And also ((C43277))
I know it's not proper, but shroud has fallen into disuse, and this wording is concise and sensible.
The final ability could probably be hybrid as well, or mono blue. I agree that it's not a perfect fit.
Biomancer's Command
See Challenge # 123.
My whole cycle of guild commands fit this: Azorius Command, Dimir Command etc.
