@amuseum: Whoops, sorry about that. I gots confoozled.
@Link: Agreed. But Alpha // Beta didn't follow the convention, either. I assume some day the and/or convention will be dropped... though, I guess it will take a while to go through all the relevant choices.
Back at @amuseum: I almost liked going Split for as long as one could go, though I admit, this is pretty much the cap without stretching. My next idea was to do 'Unlimited // Antiquities', 'The Dark // Legends' 'Revised // Chronicles' and 'Fallen // Empires', since that seems the best way to match up those sets on split cards. But you're probably right. I might be going far over the top on one theme.
Unfortunately this doesn't make sense as a split card name, since the set's not named "Arabian and Nights."
actually i made both alpha // beta and arabian nights. alpha / beta is the same set hence a single card. though in hindsight, a double-faced card would be more fitting. other cards aren't obligated to be split cards.
Circeus just made Alpha // Beta a few days ago, and mentioned it was an attempt to get every Magic set on a split card. Meanwhile, amuesum just made Arabian Nights. It seemed a shame that it didn't end up a split card, to follow up Circeus' joke, so I made one of those.
I'm no fan of explaining the joke, but if you didn't get it: An 'Arabian' is a type of horse, and 'Nights' are two copies of the first half of Night // Day going off. For what it's worth, I did think to make the second half be 'Knights', and put two 2/2 White Knight tokens into play. ..
Brother to the utterly annoying Illness in the Ranks.
It's really unusual for a soft counter to have two
in its cost. The only one I can think of is Logic Knot
Right, these Planes cards can be put in normal decks , not just when you're playing Planechase. Instead of catering to a tiny niche of players, let's make the unique flavor of the game a part of normal games.
as for fertile imagination, can you even put official Plane cards in your hand? for that matter, other cards that stay in the command zone would not affect fertile imagination at all. actually is it appropriate to name card types that aren't legal in that particular format?
I think the idea of this (as discussed over at Plane: the card type) was that amuseum is errataing Planechase out of existence :)
Hmm... But Planes are already a card type, as is called out in the Gatherer ruling on Fertile Imagination, so you'd need a new name for this.
Mm. Even that second ability is uber-strong. Play with some multilands, and you can start slinging around a nigh-infinite amount of 'better than Blaze' by round 3. Who cares what cards you're drawing and discarding at that point? Even if your opponent finds a way to kill this after you untap once, you get three loots and an instant speed Arc Lightning out of the deal.
Both of these abilities probably need to cost 2 mana rather than 1, and indeed the black one should almost certainly cost 2 life rather than 1 as well. That's assuming this is a rare; on an uncommon (as suggested by the cost and P/T) they'd probably need to cost 3 mana. Even on an uncommon I can't see why you'd make this 0/1 rather than 2/2.
I do like the idea of combining red activated looting with red activated damage, though.
I love the concept, but the ability costs may need a little tweaking. Compare the first ability with Greed or Erebos, God of the Dead and you'll see what I mean. The second ability might be okay, though.
Also, I love the flavor text.
you know, i kind of like your point Alex, im gonna call it good as is; plenty of advantage, but not too powerful
I bet there's a combo out there for this and discarding or milling yourself.
Yep, afraid not. You can play this during combat, which is pretty interesting as a way of being able to cast, say, Giant Growth when it looks like you're tapped out. But you still can't play more than one land on your turn (unless something increases your number of land drops), and you still can't ever ever play lands on opponents' turns.
(You can of course use effects like Green Sun's Zenith or Walking Atlas to put lands onto the battlefield on other players' turns.)
I was indeed going for a play-on-your-opponents-turn kind of thing...
Thanksm movezig5! I was going for a landfall combo!
trying to untap the land regardless of if the spell resolves without referencing the stack
