For what it's worth, making a land that produces two mana and isn't broken or breaks your heart when you read it is a crazy difficult challenge, and many designers have spent far too many hours trying to figure out a way to do it. Temple of the False God seems to be the best solution to the problem, IMHO, since it neuters the broken mechanic (fast mana), but still provides something of value (the mana bump on round 5 is still a solid bump). If you can find a way to tap into that vein (For example, add to your mana pool. Activate this ability only if you dealt 3 or more damage to a player this turn.) the end result wouldn't cause as many negative reactions from 'developers'.
"If you are playing the correct deck, every spell you cast gives back 2 mana" is a bit too good, yeah.
If you put it that way, then suddenly Grapeshot becomes insane mana acceleration.
Make it more red then, it's a common and thats to good btw.
~ Etbs tapped. ~ doesn't untap during your untap step.
Whenever a red spell you control deals damage to an opponent, untap ~.
: Add to your mana pool.
So is this the same as ", Pay 4 life:" ?
The problem with this kind of card is that you have to keep nerfing it and nerfing it until it's only any use in the cases where it's still broken. If you make a card with so many drawbacks that the only decks that can cope with it are so blisteringly fast that they can ignore it, haven't you just made a card that's useless 95% of the time and worryingly good 5% of the time?
Put another way, who is this card aimed at? At the moment it'll only be used at all in extremely aggressive red decks. And yet it could still be warpingly good in those.
This makes reanimator super good, but aside from that I don't think this will be too much of a problem since otherwise the card disadvantage should balance it out. I don't think Wizards would print something knowing that it would completely warp a format though.
This is fine now. Repeated removal is backbreaking; repeated lifeloss is just what creatures do. If you made this just say "target of a spell", it'd be fine at common. With "spell or ability", perhaps uncommon might be better.
Yes. It's better than Ancient Tomb, which is way too good.
Alright, Agent of the Fates says this should be rare.
"Target creature can't be blocked this turn" would be the current wording.
Is this card too good?
He, Griselbrand does make this seem kind of sad. Griselbrand is legendary though, and this is cheaper.
Solution to that problem is the same as on Charmed Pendant: "Activate this ability only any time you could cast an instant."
This may not work the way you think it does. For example, if I had a Sword of Light and Shadow and this on the table, I could declare that I'm equipping SoLaS to a creature, then pay all costs... including, tapping this for the two mana. This card would only be a problem in very rare circumstances where this is tapped, and it has nothing to do with the ability being activated.
Oh, hold it... was this intended to stop your opponent from activating their abilities? If so, this comes with the complete opposite problem. Most people will assume you can't tap this card to activate the abilities on their own cards. That's not exactly common knowledge.
Ooh. Wow. Draw 2 cards for instant. That's pretty good.
I remember when Krosan Tusker came out people were calling it the "green Inspiration for 3 mana not 4". Of course, power levels have come a little way since then, so maybe it's okay. Gift of the Gargantuan gets you a land and one more card for sorcery, with the potential for slightly more choice but also with a bunch more restrictions. (And Lair Delve is even worse, but that's just a pretty awful card.)
I suspect this would need to be . At that point it's just the cycling half of Krosan Tusker, but the other options are probably just too good. (Also note that Lay of the Land is a sorcery for , which is often equivalent to an instant for without the cantrip.)
Pretty cool. Unfortunately looks somewhat sad next to Griselbrand, who was so stupidly good at what he does that he got banned in Commander, but still casts a shadow over this kind of effect.
