It's less white making you play big creatures than white holding back legions of small creatures. The general idea is that this holds stuff back while it swings in for the win.
Very nice. But something seems wrong. White making you play big creatures? In common, you won't find a lot of creatures with power 4 or more unless you look at other colors.
and unlike the grand arbiter this either increases or reduces the cost for ALL players which balances him out a bit as your opponents can get the benefits depending on the deck they are playing. Burn and Control decks will love this guy
What's that? spells cost less this turn? take a cheapened burn spell to the face.
OR
Cheaper? cool this Cancel is now a Counterspell and my Mana Leak is now a bargain at .
It has its up for the controller as well. Opponent tapped out ? well I'll make spells cheaper then and go to town.
Well if you go WAAAY back, the first Archers ever printed Elvish Archers had first strike so there is a precedent that has been around since Alpha to support this card.
All archers printed have either reach, or a conditional ping ability, typically on creatures in combat or flyers, except for Jolrael's Centaur and Ranger en-Vec (which has first-strike). I agree cementing associations between creature-types and abilities is good, but I lament if that means you can't use a creature type somewhere else it would be good. It's a lot easier to be flexible if there's been a mix: you can't assume an archer has reach, because she may have rangestrike instead, so you have to read the card.
Longbow is such a good fit for first-strike, and you can't really leave off the creature type, I think this is the correct choice by a very narrow margin :)

Yeah, this design is growing on me. I like it. It's like Mistform Warchief always wanted to be.

Reverted back because while testing this card was a bit underpowered.
Not that it will really help the card, but there's no reason to not give him a pleasant p/t.
I don't see it as zero. I wonder why.

Jaya is a legend ;)
Maybe since it's not a spellshaper it's fine--you shouldn't have a random spellshaper I think
Archers typically have reach or have the "deal damage to target attacking/blocking creature" ability.
Personally I think they make a lot of sense as first strikers too, though.
This would be cool as a cycle.
White archers don't always, such as Brigid, Hero of Kinsbaile. But I'll agree they normally do.
