Ah c'mon, there's got to be some way that converting infinite mana into infinite -1/-1 counters (and infinite ETB and dies triggers) on your own creatures is useful. Surely? Go on, make this once-overpowered-now-terrible card good :)
Two of it don't go infinite, they just let you cast Grizzly Bears (well, Walking Corpse) as much as you like.
It's pretty awesome with Grim Poppet and a sac outlet, but even there it's just "
: Put a -1/-1 counter on target creature." Which Fallen Ferromancer does on its own.
Oooh, and now it's jumped way down to "So it's a grizzly bear that can, if I REALLY want to, comes back as a 1/1 but I'd better REALLY want it." I'd now never want to run this.
Though you're making the "Get Alex to build an insane combo" part of me twitch. With sufficient mana, you can use this to machine gun your own creatures with loads of -1/-1 tokens. Heck, just two of it is enough to go infinite. Add some other kind of "When a creature you control dies" or "When a creature ETBs" trigger and it's clearly got combo potential of gold.
Yeah, this is like Gravecrawler but... way better, like, missing the "drawback". Black gets 2/1s or 2/2s for B with minimal drawback (Diregraf Ghoul, Vampire Lacerator, Tormented Hero and of course Gravecrawler), but they do need some kind of drawback still, which this really doesn't.
Vitenka's throw away point seems pretty valid. I'd change this to say "Target permanent or player". Gives the card a lot more legs.
Uh... Oh; I see. You mean "From cards that share a name with" - protection from that card isn't very useful, unless it's a card that does something from exile (which kinda few do, being somewhat against the whole point of "Removed from the game").
I don't think I'd run this. It can't protect the player, and it's expensive to protect more than a couple of things. And people only have many copies of stuff if they're using tokens, and then it doesn't help.
Interesting defence against recursion, though.
Hmmm. I'd run a vanilla 2/2 for 1 any day. Getting an extra 1/1 for 1 (and fodder for counter moving tricks) every time my opponent blocks or I use a sac outlet... possibly s bit too much too good.
This is what I think this should say (if you want to keep it as an Aura):
"Enchant creature. When ~ ETBs, reveal the top X cards of your library, where X is the enchanted creature's converted mana cost. Put a creature card from among them onto the battlefield, the put of the rest of the cards revealed this way on the bottom of your library in any order."
As Alex has said, creating token copies of creatures or other permanents when there's nothing to reference can cause some memory issues. That's why things that create token copies of things not already on the battlefield, like Mimic Vat or Back from the Brink, tend to remove the copied card to a public zone.
Not really fixed the main problems, which are that this is a sorcery masquerading as an Aura, and that this creates very complex tokens while simultaneously removing the original card reference for those tokens.
Fixed
Technically, can put a Fireball on the battlefield. Granted, that fireball will be very sorry that it's on the battlefield, and promptly die of embarrassment, but I assume you want the words 'permanent card' on there somewhere.
For what it's worth, I agree with Alex. I don't really see the benefit of forcing memory issues, when we can just use the card itself.
Oh, also, this is an enchant creature that doesn't do anything that a sorcery couldn't do. In fact, being an enchant creature makes this card vulnerable to a Doom Blade in response.
Why not just "put a permanent card from among them onto the battlefield"? Why make people have to remember all the rules text on, say, Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker when the card is gone away?
Reminds me of Summoning Trap. Might need to be a bit more expensive.
Oh, cute. I like this.
