  Actually, the best card to compare this to would be Blade of the Sixth Pride which is a 3/1 for .

  Comparing with that maybe this isn't that crazy. Sorry my first instinct was that this was too good to be a common. Having read your concepts page, I understand where this would sit in your set.

  This is the Absorb mechanic from Lymph Sliver otherwise 2 mana for what is basically a 3/2 at common is possibly a bit undercosted. I could see this as an Uncommon though.

  Let's compare to Maelstrom Nexus:
  +it can trigger more than once a turn
  +it always gets the card you want it to get
  +it can fetch lands (and nonbasic ones at that) if you really need it to
  +three and a half paints cheaper
  -it only triggers on instants or sorceries
  -the card only goes into your hand, instead of being played for free (which completely nerfs going for Hypergenesis, too)

  The last one is the big one. You can still do something like Channel the Suns -> Seething Song -> Cabal Ritual -> Dark Ritual and turn 4 mana into 12, and Nourishing Shoal + big blank card is still a roundabout tutor, but it really doesn't seem that flashy anymore.

  Just like you've got here except "a card with a lower CMC than that spell" or "a card with CMC less than that spell's".
