Much cleaner, thank you
My goal was to make an Abrade variant. Uncommon sorcery spot
I didn't know how to balance that
Are you seriously taking Sinkholeinto any consideration? That spell is notoriously problematic. It's a good idea to look at when and where cards get printed Sinkhole was removed for Revised. You know what company that card is in?
At sorcery speed and more this looks much better. The direct damage arguably could be scaled a little, but it's basically a cycling effect, so a free bonus alternate way to cast this.
It's not the Abrade variant I probably would put forward, but it's not a glaring issue anymore.
I'm not sure I understand what
> "...exile it until for any number of turns where it could be cast... "
means. Can I cast it whenever I could and want without paying its mana cost? Or do I have to choose the number of turns when exiling on cast? If it's the former, then it seems like you would want to utilize counters somehow here instead. The phrases "exile until any time" and "cast without paying its mana cost" seem to be contending with each other.
My attempt from the top of my head would be:
> Postpone (Rather than cast this card from your hand, you may pay its mana cost and exile it. At the beginning of your upkeep, put a time counter on it. While it's exiled this way, you may cast it without paying its mana cost.)
> Heal target creature (all damage marked on it is removed), then put a +1/+1 on that creature for each time counter that was on ~.
I'm looking for a balanced costing to a blue draw spell. Would Ancestral Recall do?
Alright. well what kind of replacement effect?
I'll do some changes for the other comments
Stone Rain
Sinkhole
This is also instant speed land destruction which by itself is avoided. Volcanic Upheaval looks to be an exception - likely because the set also had the awaken mechanic and the card wouldn't help against those that much if it were sorcery speed. Blogatog link.
Look up some land destruction and tell me how much this should cost.
A source is where something comes from. Damage has a source. Calling the thing that is/would be dealt damage a source as well is extremely confusing.
Why does this say "that much life" rather than "1 life"? You want this a delayed replacment? That's ugly.
As mentioned elsewhere the fact that you yourself as a player may get the life gain and the damage prevention is weird.
I would avoid damage prevention with a replacement effect if you want to create these tokens at common. That kind of stuff is itself worth a red flag for complexity.
I see, yes. Back to Lotus Petal. I was quite reason there was some reason but couldn't recall it. Mana abilities aren't something you tend to care about that much in common play so it's easy to forget the nuances/problems with those.
> Why is there a tap cost in addition to the sac? Neither Gold nor Clues tokens have that.
Treasures do though. And the tokens named Etherium Cell IIRC. There are multiple reasons. Among them: For artifact tokens it's more intuitive to actually work like artifacts and tapping is the delimiter between artifacts and enchantments.
For Golds/Treasures in particular there where some rules issues because they had mana abilities and created confusion when used with other abilities.
I personally support -symbols on artifact tokens going forward - with the opposite being the exception.
I would expect these to be handled the same way the Clues were. In any case, there should be some kind of reminder text pertaining to what an Elixir token is and does. Is the token really supposed to be colored? It's functionality is somewhat confusing as well. From what I can gather, I think you can "nullify" up to 2 damage if the source is you in that you prevent 1 damage and then gain 1 life. Those tokens seem to mess up combat math pretty quickly as well. Why is there a tap cost in addition to the sac? Neither Gold nor Clues tokens have that.
