The thing is "history" is full of mistakes that you are supposed to learn from - you might have heard about those who don't being "doomed to repeat" those mistakes.
In this case your instingt may be right: Repeatable instant-speed damage prevention and similar effects at common are problematic. The common Samite Healer from "history" has become Abuna Acolyte at uncommon. (Note: This doesn't affect the more simple versions that only prevent damage to players e. g. Reinforced Bulwark.)
Even in "history" the fact that this prevents all damage rather than just 1 or 2 points of damage would cause a rarity upgrade for this.
I could see arguments being made for rare based on the fact that this is an outstanding blocker and the power of 2 helps better to exploit using the ability to protect itself than e. g. a 1/1 body would. Also invalidating all damage from someone whose deck relies entirely on combat damage to deal with planeswalkers is a point in favor of rare. That would be different if it affected only one source of damage.
Huh; my instinct for this is uncommon - but the history of magic suggests Samite abilities are either common or rare. Who knew?
Not a common?
Six mana feels like a lot for these effects. Or rather these effects feel small for a six mana rare.
They don't... but... yup; the rules permit it. Cards may have P/T. Objects may have them. Nothing limiting that to just creatures.
Of course, only a creatures P/T do anything, if a sorcery for some reason has a P/T it just sits there, but if something goes to look what it is, it'll find it.
Definitely space to maybe do something interesting with that. Should Lightning Bolt be 3/0 perhaps?
I also like that this no longer is a modal spell.
Sorceries usually don't have p/t.
Willing to make this anything flavorfully relevant.
Will turn to sorcery until i/we get a better idea
Further the modes are really unconnected and imbalanced. I doubt, adding a token creation option would help add focus to it.
Yeha; I'd suggest it be a sorcery; perhaps with one of the modes being to drop a 1/1 token into play?
A six mana 1/1 which is basically only ETB effects. If you are designing something like this, maybe you want this to be a sorcery rather than a creature.
How would I fix this? I thought the first one was too similar to the Bridge. If you'd like I can make it a reusable Wish ability and take out the copycat ability?
praise the pheldagriff!
Your most recent change made the card a worse design. It was a fine execution of the idea before and now it is two executions and testament of the card's creator's inability to just choose one and keep it.
You have a big splashy effect. Why ruin it by writing the same effect but slightly different next to it and act like it's a choice between two options? You just force the audience to read the same option twice.
And the sky split asunder, to summon forth the level 4 judge who looked confused because seriously; layers? Really? And he spaketh thus "Stop it. We have angels battling demons over on this other table, and they can keep it straight. Humans on ponies do not get to make things more complicated than the forces of damnation."
is this a bible study course now? :)
That would be once someone calls the fourth horseman, a pale rider on a pale horse: The judge that has to explain everyone about layers.
APOCALYPSE!
This is a planar portal, I couldn't think of anything better to do with it :P
i'll try something
Oh, god, imagine controlling three of them!
Tooth and Nail says "Yeah, sure." Why not?
It's like they just upgraded Quicksilver Amulet in all the ways.
It's a little too reminiscent of Planar Bridge. I certainly can imagine what this thing is doing.
