Mechanics | Districts of Kestner

under cover: A creature is under cover as long as no opponent controls a creature with less power. Used on 13 cards: Carnal Hunger, Unclean Zombie, Skittering Rootfinder, Dungeon Fatigue, Aglar, Master Assassin, Garrett, Skillful Pilferer, Graveyard Robber, Vagarious Mystic, Secret Ritual, Sorcerous Suppressor, Bone-Clad Survivor, Lurking Vindicator, Follower of Aglar

A common mechanic in Dishonored, Thief, and Darkest Dungeon is the way characters sneak through the dark or behind people's backs. Being under cover is my way of bringing this into Magic.

Spare: Whenever a creature dealt damage by this one this turn dies, you may return that creature to its owner’s hand. If you do, you gain life equal to that creature’s toughness. Used on 20 cards: Callous Preacher, Tyvian Judiciary, Shopkeep Sentinel, Shaman Necromancer, Flavian Ambassador, Kin of Odessa, Pelgovian Bull, Gentle Courser, Blood Ox, Passive Apparition, Serpentile Spitter, City Watch Recruiter, Abbey Ascetic, Curio Hunter, Weald Bat, Skilled Boatswain, Brigmore Witch, Political Pawn, Attention Diverter, Cieran the Merciful

Flavorfully represents the way Dishonored has nonlethal options in every mission. This offers options to players that they usually wouldn't have in other Magic sets.

Experience counters: A player with one or more experience counters is experienced. Used on 1 cards: Blink

From Commander 2015. Also adding reminder text and various boosts that happen when a player is experienced.

Ulterior motive: If this creature would deal combat damage to a player, you may instead have it fight target creature that player controls. Used on 14 cards: Freakish Lightning, Siren's Scout, Banded Crusher, Loping Warthog, Fleet-Footed Scamp, Bonehoard Mystic, Cove Scrounger, Trinket of Possibility, Bulky Conspirator, Hawk-Eyed Dragon, Forest Animist, Pigmented Ooze, Fungal Floater, The Hebret Brothers

In card text or details pages, write the mechanic's code name (playtest name) between square brackets, like "[Crittercast]", "[Bushido 1]" or "[Delay 4 {2}{R}{R}]". It will be expanded to the mechanic's name plus reminder text, such as "Suspend 4 – {2}{r}{r}. (Rather than cast this spell from your hand,...)"
To expand a mechanic's name but not its reminder text, include parentheses at the end of the square brackets: "[Crittercast()]", "[Delay 9 {R}()]".
