Reprint of Fact or Fiction. In a Wisdom v. Hellbent set, Fact or Fiction gets one additional monkey wrench added to it. If you give an opponent a pile of four lands, are you just helping his Wisdom cards? If your opponent is riffing with Hellbent, should you put three lands with his best spell and leave his second best spell in a pile of one?
Oh, also, Rare, because, even in draft, this card is a bit nutso. I wouldn't normally suggest an uncommon become Mythic, but you sure could do it to FoF.
Those split cards are dropping. I like the idea, but when I went to assemble the packs, it just didn't look right at all (and it would kind of clue people into which pactmaker they should aim for. That's a big no-no in draft.) So, I'm just going back to the old method of putting the same 5 cards on the timeshifted sheet. How unfortunate.
Yeah, I'm not sure what to do with this card in constructed. Maybe I should have it put three bird tokens into play and three Sea Eagles into your hand? That solves a lot of the problem (including the draft complication) but... well... it ain't as fancy. I kind of like how fancy these cards are. Meh. Fancy doesn't trump playability, though.
Oh definitely, if this was mythic both those costs would be
cheaper again. But let's not go there.
I was talking about constructed, though, so it maxes out at 4, right? In constructed you can only have 4 of any one card total between your deck and sideboard. Unless you're relying on your quirky Sea Eagle and Sea Eagle to let people get 12 in there? I don't know if that works.
Done and done. I could probably get away with one more off the top if this was Mythic. ;p
Ha! Okay, I'll take that as a compliment.
Hmm. I'm not arguing with you Alex, but none of those cards you mentioned put you up six flyers, or three flyers and three cards in hand. I'm willing to drop by
, though. You should, at the very least, get the equivalent of a 3/3 flyer for five to start. That makes sense.
I'm not so sure about "fine for constructed". This looks rather like Icatian Town to me. Okay, they fly, but it's no Lingering Souls or Battle Screech. I don't think I saw nonwhite decks playing Spectral Procession for
.
...Yes. Quirky, weird, charmingly odd. In fact, you know what, this looks the most like the output of my Magic card generator than anything I've seen on Multiverse for weeks.
Yeah, this looks like it was designed to the power curve 5-8 years ago. These days I'd expect it to be 7 mana with an activation cost of about 4. Reminiscent of Chancellor of the Dross then. (Heh, even down to the "big flying lifelinker that you can reveal from your hand early on so it's not dead in the early game" :) )
I have to say, I am impressed with the amount of relatively subtle ways you find to emphasise wisdom or hellbent in this set.
Part of a five card rare cycle with Guiding Whisp. Unlike the other four cards in this cycle, this one is very hard to do in draft. I have seen one player cast this and put three 1/1 flyers into play... but it doesn't seem worth it, really. Still perfectly fine for constructed, I suppose.
Though, I wonder what I planned to do about sideboards when dealing with this card. I can't remember what my original plan was. I could always 'tournament errata' the five bad creature cards to be any number in your sideboard. Granted, cards shouldn't do something that isn't written on the card... but that's more like written into the tournament rules... the cards don't do anything different in a normal game. Plus are you going to argue with a guy that has 15 Pearled Unicorns in his sideboard?
Hello. I'm a reprint of Avatar of Will. I'm here to punish opponents who go Hellbent.
Okay, okay, you're right. This one is just plain weird. It's one of five cards in a double creature type lord cycle that give the abilities to themselves as well. There's also no other Thrull Wizards in the set... this is an attempt to get one drafter to have completely different draft goals.
And, yes, that first line is partially stolen from Thrull Wizard. And, no, white doesn't normally get that... it's pretty derivative. I like it, but I don't think I'd fight for it if I was in the Future Future League, since I'd be wrong, and I'd know it.
I've seen one person decry how terrible this card is, then, on another day, have their @$$ handed to them by this same card. I don't know. I've said before that Magic 20XX was intended to be drafted, and in that environment, these costs were very good. Would you even think about playing this in constructed, though? Personally, I think the abilities are reasonable for what they represent... but I don't know if rares are supposed to be reasonable. I suppose I could one colorless off the top, and one in the activation, though, without making a broken card...
