Some of the card art that I blatantly stole for my first printing was easy to find. Then there's "Show a snake attacking, while spawning six other snakes". I can't remember what I used for a picture. It was probably horrifying.
Functionalish reprint of Sosuke, Son of Seshiro and part of the 'collect me' odd tribal cycle as seen on cards like Gorgon Infamoure. Mostly, I wanted Sosuke, but he was Legendary. His deathtouch ability isn't really deathtouch, either. So I took a paintbrush to him and 'fixed' him. Whether designers should stay this close to the original card is debatable...
Reprint of Ivy Seer. I like the card. Urza block was full of so many crazy cards, that occasional strong cards like this one get lost for not being broken. All of the seer cycle supports wisdom... and I can't use them all, so I chose green.
Reprint of Rakdos Pit Dragon. Anytime a card could be reprinted with Hellbent without too much fuss, I did it. Hence RPD's in the set.
It bugs me that I just typed in three 4cc rares in red. Mons's Goblin Warchief and Nurture's Child might belong in very different decks, but there shouldn't be this much overlap. Hmm. I could decrease the Nature's Child p/t, but that's the least overlap. Drop the warchief to 1/1 for

?
Another 'collect me' rare spinning off the Seeker of New Lands cycle. I admit, the name is much more blue than red. But the flavor still seems right to me, considering Elves aren't 'supposed to' grow up to become violent red soldiers.
More Guiding Whisp goofiness. I have this imaginary perfect scenario in my head, where someone uses a couple Master Decoys to tap two goblins before attackers are declared, then this happens.
I've seen enough bad variations on this card, that I wanted to see a card that was both potent, but not broken. It's probably still a bad card, but it should come with a few more "I can't believe you just did that!" moments than, say, Keldon Battlewagon. Not as many as Dracoplasm, though...
I designed this card about two years before Moonveil Dragon came out. It's nice to know I was right on target.
As an aside, I really loved to see this card get played. It did an excellent job warping a draft deck, was good enough on its own, and really electrified the games it participated in.
I once got into a very confused conversation with a player over this card. They insisted that this was a reprint, and I knew it was not. That's a pretty awesome accidental compliment, by the way.
I like that alternate wording. Yes, we'll use that. I would have put them in the most beneficial order, but that infers there is one. Most of the time, you want him on the table... but Pyroclasm and Wisdom tricks sometimes means you want him in hand. I admit, it's rare... but I didn't want to stick someone with that very frustrating "But I just wanted something to discard to my spellshaper" problem... especially since that sort of thing is common in this set.
Why not just put them in the most beneficial order? "Put one of them onto the battlefield, one of them into your hand, and one of them into your graveyard"? Or are there cards that want a DD in your hand?
An alternative wording: "you may put one of them onto the battlefield, you may put one of them into your hand, and you may put one of them into your graveyard."
I don't have a story for this card. Just a Royal Assassin variation I thought was cute. I'm not really sure if Royal Assassin is appropriate nowadays... but here's one regardless.
