So, even though we already had this discussion about additional targets in the melody clause, I thought: wouldn't all targets be selected upon casting, and then the game checks to see if the melody should be initiated upon resolution?
I realize that would cause some issues in the case of this particular card, where something like Leyline of Sanctity would prevent you from saving your creatures, but I would be ok with that. Assuming this does function as I described.
Nevermind, decided to move (((Silentfoot Interrogator))) down to common (pending some adjustments), and reimagine this as a somewhat more exciting uncommon without potential targeting issues.
ooh, I like how this can do interesting stuff in a multiplayer game, especially if they aren't your creatures attacking }:-) (}:-) is my Minotaur smiley for those curious - or not)
I guess I should clarify who is being dealt damage in a scenario where you use it to regenerate opposing creatures.
awww! now don't like the card so much }:-( LOL
It is much clearer now and less powerful in multiplayer.
Wouldn't be very vengeful if you could take advantage of opposing creatures being burned in order to hurt those creature's controllers. That'd just be cruel.
Are you intending this to deal damage for each attacker (whether it's about to die or not), or only those which actually regenerate? At the moment it's somewhere in between the two.
Doesn't the clause "each creature regenerated this way" clarify who gets to deal damage?
Heh. It does, but it tries to happen as this spell resolves. And obviously none of them have actually regenerated yet. You'd need to set up a delayed triggered ability for that to work: something like "Whenever a creature regenerates this way, it deals etc".
Ah. I see.
I believe this is now correct structurally, with the Melody condition placed as an "intervening if" clause, according to the rules of delayed triggers.
Indeed. Although I have a feeling this will trigger if Song of Retribution is actually the first spell you cast, but you cast another one later. To avoid that you'd have to switch the order of the if clause and the whenever clause; I think that would only create the delayed trigger if you'd cast another spell by the time Song of Retribution is resolving.
Hmmmm, that does seem true. I had the "if" clause first, but it just looked so awkward followed by a "whenever" trigger.
Melody effect was cleaned up and weakened a bit.
Right now, you have to pick a creature in advance, then every regenerating creature deals damage to it. I think it would work better as "Melody — If you've cast another spell this turn, whenever a creature regenerates this turn, you may choose another creature. If you do, the first creature deals damage equal to its power to the second creature."
ALL I WANT TO DO IS CREATE A DELAYED TRIGGER WHY IS IT SO HARD
Ditched a delay trigger, now melody grants an ability to ALL creatures.
Lol. You know that if an opponent's creature regenerates, that player gets to choose the target, probably your stuff?
Yes, that was intentional. If they have anything that regenerates, it deserves retribution.
Now a white rare! And just as awkwardly worded! Hmm...
Removed the melody business and regeneration gobbledegook, now it's just like a wordier, monowhite version of Fight to the Death.
At least this can kill the utility creatures that stay out of combat.
