Wow, that first ability was last seen on a 9 mana demon: Kuro, Pitlord. A bit too strong for a 4-drop.

Wording-wise, it's more standard to say "another target creature" than "target creature not named ~".

Yeah... this incarnation may single-handedly win you the game as soon as you play it. Comparatively, I would play this card in a heartbeat:

@ Alex - It's "not named" because it's not a legend, thus you could use it to kill your second Malice to turn on the graveyard ability.

As to the power-level, I'm not going to be too concerned for the moment. You can't outright compare it to Kuro, who was also a 9/9 in the set that followed Mirrodin. It may just need an additional {1} in the ability's cost, it may not.

I'm guessing this completely changed from its previous incarnation?

Yeah, used to be part of a cycle of incarnations, and this one was named Malice and had the ability "Pay 1 Life: Deal 1 damage to target creature."
