2 mana combat trick with equipment around, as well as a combo with graft equipment like stitcher's graft

It's also taking control of Aura's which is a bit mean, for such a low cost, at instant speed.

That's Aura Graft for ya.

For me, it's the equipment part that nags at the back of my head.
{u} has played in this space before with Disarm and Carry Away - Grip of Phyresis being printed in a commander set doesn't really count. Anyway, stealing equipment is really more of a {r} thing IMO: Magnetic Theft, Ogre Geargrabber, and Vulshok Battlemaster.

Red only gets temporary steal, though. This can be solidly blue, although definitely at least three mana

It's a temporary steal for Equipment and Fortifications, and a permanent steal for Auras. So it lines up with {r} (Magnetic Theft), and {u} (Enchantment Alteration).

I'm not a fan of the "if it's able to be attached" as a phrase, but I can't quite find an alternate wording that encompasses all use cases that this ability has. Given the word "permanent", it isn't as clean to use similar text to the Oracle text of Enchantment Alteration, since it can grab enchantments that attach to various permanent types (Coma Veil), and attach them to permanents of completely different types. And since it can be applied to Auras, Equipment, Fortifications, and whatever else Wizards comes out with in the future, you can't use the wording from Aura Graft either.

Only way to let you deal with curses or other non permanent enchanted things is to invoke "objects," which is a huge no-no

The phrase "permanent or player" does not seem that problematic.

... but what about Spellweaver Volute? Animate Dead?

EDIT:

Blinking the permanent and returning it under your control would be a hacky way to accomplish this.

How about some new wording?

> "Reattach target attached permanent to a new target. (The new target must be legal.)"

Reattach isn't a thing. You just attach it. And you don't pick a "new" target unless it's still on the stack, since it doesn't have targets on the battlefield.

The meaning is fairly clear; it could become terminology. "Unattach target permanent, then Reattach it to any legal target of your choice."

Though yeah, recasting it might be the simplest option. ... huh; not quite sure what the terminology for that would be, either though. Since a permanent isn't the spell it used to be.

Another alternative that in theory would allow even unattached equipment to be equipped to a target:

> "Attach target permanent to any target it could be attached to. (The new target must be legal. Auras and equipment are attachable.)"

"Could be attached to" is IMO more easily understood than "could produce" (Exotic Orchard) for example.

I don't think there is any way that you can get around having to change some ruling or create a new one for this.
