Oh nice. Yes, that's possibly the only legitimately colored 0 cost green spell :)
Not sure the 0 cost would get the beginner suitable bonus though.
This seems pretty overpowered. 2+ mana on turn one sounds dangerous to me.
Why is it +2 mana? The card says "or". For that matter, there aren't any one-drop Elves/Birds with haste so the creature mode can't make you mana on turn 1.
Edit: Or are you saying it's dangerous to be able to play a 2-drop on turn 1? I guess that's true. It's no worse than Rite of Flame, but it's a while since we've seen a one-drop ritual like Rite of Flame. Also comparable to Lotus Petal, which is a scary place to be.
I meant if you have multiple of them. My comment was lacking some clarity.
Yeah, aspirationally this is a 5-drop on turn 1. Empties your hand; but who cares, you've got a... well whatever. Something ridiculous. And, hopefully, hexproof.
It is just Elvish Spirit Guide, so we know how it plays out in practice. I agree that's probably above the curve in a vacuum; what if it could be restricted to only one a turn?
On 'one per turn': Bit of an ugly hack. Also, that works, but only if you don't print other mana accelerants that as good as this.
Most broken mana accelerants aren't good cards. Lotus Petal into a round one White Knight wasn't a spectacular play. The problem is that mana accelerants make broken decks that much more broken.
But in a Cube? This card is fine. In an environment without combos that roughly end the game? Fine. The current standard environment before Aetherworks Marvel was banned? Broken in half.
