The obvious interpretation of spellbeasts is "when this dies", but I wanted to play around with alternate conditions. The idea here is, each will have a "whenever this is dealt combat damage" trigger, some of which will usually be synonymous with killing it, but some might not be.

I might design some other spellbeasts with this trigger, or try some with "when this dies" or another variant, although I don't intend them to be in a set together, I'd choose one unifying mechanic for spellbeasts if I was designing the set.

Ooooh, giving this some toughness pumps would be fun. :)

Is the name meant to be a play on Scyther, the Pokémon?

It was sort of inspired by Scyther, but wasn't really a reference, I just wanted a name that sounded weird :)
