Defensive and offensive abilities on the same card encourages canister usage.

Elephant w/ reach?

This could be a spider.

It could, but I think an elephant with reach makes sense if the elephant is tall enough and has a long enough trunk. :)

I would quite like to see monkeys with grapnels :)

I think an elephant makes sense here considering Sandsteppe Mastodon

Reach trample is actually a very weird combination of abilities now that I think about it. There are two cards that have it naturally. One is a giant spider Archweaver the other is a mess of a rare from Dragons of Tarkir Avatar of the Resolute

Its played quite well for me, being a versatile defensive and offensive tool at common.

Ruthless Instincts is the card I always think of for reach and trample

Sure, but you never really need both at the same time was supposed to be my point. You don't actually get both with instincts either.

Don't get me wrong, the card is mechanically good because it does whatever you need doing. It's just weird when you think about it.

It was intended to be nice on offense and defense, and encourage Canisters.
