Oooh, this is very nice. Rules question - does 'destroying' include by damage?

...I don't actually think so.

As everyone should know "Damage doesn't kill creatures; state based actions do."

That might be a problem.

Having spirits seems to conflict with Thorpters as the small fliers

It's not so much of a conflict so much as yet another token. I don't think it is that bad of a thing. However, we have a very high number of fliers in this set, which is fine as long as each color (especially green) has answers.

Since we have Arbiter of Extravagance we may want to reflavor this to make 2/2 knights instead for a cute little symmetry.
