For Challenge # 138. In this reality, Sorin is still the twisted guardian of Innistrad, but Avacyn is determined to be its destroyer. I suppose that means that the demon Griselbrand would be Avacyn's liberator? Works for me.

In retropect, this ability would probably make more sense in green. Albeit without the flying. Ah well...

Okay, switched to B/G/W added Vigilance back in the mix. I just got to wait for the image to update through Picassa. Now that it's finished, I think this is one of the first cards I've seen that looks BGW without forcing it. This version of Avacyn is into a sort of 'naturalism', but her way of perfecting this evil world is to replace it with a void.

Yeah, I only know the outlines of the story, but I really like where this version ended up, very evocative! (and griselbrand too)

So this is MaRo's version of the story.

7 mana for an 11/11 flying vigilance trample indestructible?

Personally, I think Avacyn, Angel of Hope is kind of crazy for 8. I tried to balance using that as a guide. It's quite possible I'm off target... but if I underdid it, then the card would look horrible.

As an aside, I should point out that while the trample is very good, flying creatures can chump block this Avacyn all day, since they have indestructible. A couple Phantom Monsters on the opposite side isn't the best answer, but they aren't going anywhere. Foster enough air defense, and Avacyn becomes a huge liability.

Oh, oh, I see - I misread the second ability. Okay, that is a moderately interesting drawback.

Yeah, I thought that was really interesting, but I couldn't decide if this was too strong or too weak (or both, ie. too swingy). It's a pretty hefty downside, which is likely to lose you the game angel notwithstanding if you just shove this in the wrong deck. But OTOH, if you build your deck with walls, wither creatures, evasion creatures or pacifisms, etc, and can whittle down their flier-blockers even a bit, this has trample and indestructible, so is likely to win the game in approx 2 turns...

Couldn't say. I just know that you've got a huge problem if your opponent Pacifies Avacyn. You can't even use a Disenchant to get rid of the Pacifism. Granted, you probably built your deck so that it included Erase instead... but all these little changes mean that you're restricting your options to generally less powerful cards.

Oh, and some sort of Armageddon effect combined with bounce would be game ending. But I don't know. I don't think there's such as thing as 'too swingy to print'... but unfortunately, in my mind, the casting cost normally needs to be increased in those cards so that the swinginess doesn't matter any more, thus making an inefficient card.
