What do you do with the Plains after you search for it? Why would I want to play a dual land with two rather severe drawbacks?

It ETBs untapped. Which is probably enough for aggro decks to play it.

I don't mind this idea too much. But it does have the subtle annoyance that if you wanted to not tap this for your first spell of the turn, you might lose it while it's untapped without getting a chance to tap it (since by the time you see the coin flip result, it's too late to respond).

forget to mention that the land ETBs (tapped so as you're not getting an extra mana from an untapped land).

I'm still working on creating a land that has the flavor of portals.
