See Challenge # 107.
I went the other way from my other designs, looking for a land which was like a basic monocolour land but a little bit worse, so I could tack on a small bonus.
I think the drawback is the interesting thing; I debated if I could do a more original bonus, but I decided to keep it really simple. You could think of other bonuses like the teetering peaks cycle.
Heh. I kind of assumed you were going the opposite direction at first: "You can't spend this mana to cast white spells." That, admittedly, would be too restrictive. Or at least the life gain should be more?
Either way, I find the idea funny. Might I also suggest a land with a line like this?
: Add
,
,
or
to your mana pool. You may use this mana only to cast white spells, or activate abilities on white permanents.
I did something very similar to the last line on Elvish Embassy, although I went completely upside. It's true, your version could, in principle, enter untapped and not be better than any basic land or the modern dual lands...
This reminds me of Gilded Castle.
Golden Castle also inspired my flipped version Nantuko Ambassador.
Oh yes, it's very similar. I should have seen Golden Castle, but I can't remember if I did (even the names are similar :)) I did something similar with Elvish Embassy.
Is Golden Castle too good? It seems like it's equally good to plains in most decks and better in any deck with multicolour cards. Is there another significant drawback I'm missing? It can't pay for non-spell non-permanent effects and off-colour activated abilities and a couple of other edge cases that (I think?) won't usually come up, does that count as sufficient drawback?
Hmm. Good point - thinking about all my W/x decks, about the only cases where Gilded Castle would have any drawback over Plains is when casting Batwing Brume or Pentad Prism or paying for Norn's Annex, and it's obviously much better for anything from Boros Guildmage to Orim's Thunder.
(Edit: Link has now removed the ability to tap for
, which makes it much more interesting.)
