Piety + Personal Shield

Oh! Space: the Convergence! I forgot about that.

Ok, a fairly low level white combat trick, and.. hmm, regeneration shields. Or sorta like the... torment I think? spirits that replaced all damage with removing a counter.

So, a combat trick. And then somehow I started to think about shields that explode when you shoot them with lasers, thank you Dune. And ended up here, mechanically. And black.

Cost... Thrill-Kill Assassin exists. So about that, really. Or... go on, let's push. I'd lie to reduce its power still further; but then why would they ever block it?

Or... you know, let's make this white. The source cards both are; I probably should have noted that down right away. It's a white deathtouch, but as a balance/punish mechanic. That's valid. Ok, unpushed the cost, for pushing the pie instead.

Name from mash, obvious flavour joke may need to to look at what (one of) the earliest creature that got the artificer type is. Gah; and I got the quote wrong too. Should be penitent. Ah forget it, "You'll only kill me once" is still a fun flavour. ... I put more thought into the flavour-text joke than the card. Is that a bad sign?

Rarity... NWO doesn't quite forbid that complexity (it's only this card, not granting abilities to other parts of a combat) - but it's also not something you really want to let someone draft six of. Uncommon.

Existence: This card shouldn't really exist. There's just no really good reason to do other than make it a 1/1 with deathtouch. "Just do that" "But then it isn't white" "So change its colour, why are you trying to give white a cheap deathtoucher"?

The mechanic would make more sense on a big mythic, that the opponent would have a reason to multiply-block (though then, being stompy, it wouldn't need the extra help). Or with Lure at least hinted at.

Bleh.

Kind of similar to Loyal Sentry, so there is a precedence.

Oh yes; all the way back then. Probably not a good precedent any more; but does suggest I got the price right :)
