When I was in middle school, a lot of my classmates liked to play a variant of Magic called "Fast Magic." The rules were that there was no land-per-turn limit, and players drew up to seven at the end of each of their turns. The idea was to make the game go faster, as the name implies.
While I was in the shower, the idea came to me: "What if there was a commander that turned the game into Fast Magic?" The result is what you see here.
If you feel that the colors, flavor, or balance feel off, please feel free to leave a comment!
Heh. Damia, Sage of Stone did something quite similar to the second half. I think the first half is the more broken, but at five mana it's much less worrying.
Sadly, one of the best things to do with this is blink it or bounce it each turn, so that you're the only one to benefit from it :>
Interesting idea. And costs enough that it's not completely smashing the mana curve into irrelevance; just making the game go faster once it gets started.
Ignoring bounce tricks for a moment; the other obvious good thing to do with it is to stuff your deck with land; and a few REALLY big spells. Drop this, drops 6 land a turn while casting the things you do draw. Boom.
Added a clunky clause to prevent cheating.
I'm glad you noticed the potential for cheating. I've added a special "f*** you" clause to fix it.
Did you intend the anti-blinking clause to "save" this from Path to Exile and create (I think) an infinite loop with Rest in Peace and Leyline of the Void?
Yeah what if you were just to give it shroud? I know the keyword is phased out now, but you could even just spell it out on the card.
Also yeah I totally used to play fast magic and hated it because it wasn't spelled out in the rules. But this would make it official and I love it lol.
Implemented a more elegant solution to the "blinking" problem.
I decided to just give her shroud. Even though Wizards doesn't print that ability anymore, it's still keyworded, and there's nothing stopping me from using it. Plus, it's perfect considering that she's blue and green.
Added reminder text for shroud.
Another possibility I've been considering for this card is" protection from you." However, as cool as that would sound, I don't think it would be well received. Plus, it feels kind of out of flavor. I'm definitely going to put that on another card, though.
