History:

2013-02-20 11:02:00: Alex created the card Mistress of Innovation

Created for Challenge # 068 as a fix of Mistress of the Machine.

Amongst the problems with the source card were:

  • The free-spells effect is extremely powerful but the card's cost is ludicrously cheap
  • The second ability achieves pretty much precisely nothing, aside from a few edge cases like hosing Sunburst
  • The third ability doesn't even make sense as a static ability
  • It's a black card cast with blue mana and the last ability is red or green
  • Oh, and it's got no power or toughness!

Here's my attempted fix. I think 2UUU is still pretty cheap to bypass mana costs on artifacts entirely, but it seems Wizards disagree: Master Transmuter. Of course, it's symmetrical, but it's an easy symmetry to break: my deck has giant artifacts and yours doesn't.

I changed the meaningless second ability into something that you can use to sortof break the symmetry.

The last ability was still too out-of-colour, so I added the rather odd Mountain rider. It's like the colour restriction on Invigorate or Horobi's Whisper. I'm not very keen on that bit; it may be that the card should just drop that effect entirely. But this way keeps one of the more endearing parts of the source card.
