For Challenge # 067

I cut out a lot and this is still very wordy.

This challenge is very hard, despite seeming like it would be easy. I think the idea is looking for things that have specific connotations that can't easily be captured by a generic term. Like, you could easily say "guerilla war" instead of several real world wars. But the iraq war has specific connotations of a faux-not-imperialist quagmire that I think it would be hard to capture elsewhere.

I apologise for the somewhat politicised nature of the topic, I tried not to dwell on it :)

Heh. Not to get too political, either, but this does make the Iraq War (any of them) look like a good thing. I suppose that's the inherent nature of Magic cards. No one would play them if they were truly bad... so it's never going to translate correctly.

Though, I would have bust a gut if you made this card:

Iraq War
{2}{b}
Enchantment
Creatures with swampwalk may be blocked as if they did not have that ability.
Artist - Dan Frazier

Maybe only gain control of the land until end of turn? Both for power reasons and for realism. At a minimum, lose control when the war ends ("Gain control of target land for as long as you control Iraq.")

The original version gained control of the lands only as long as you controlled Iraq War, which much better represented the potential futility, but it didn't fit on the card.

I think an ideal Iraq War card would be, I keep pumping in investment, and I might get a load of resources out of it, or it might all mess up.

Hm. Maybe it doesn't need to make tokens, maybe just the "keep gaining lands, but only as long as you can keep paying for it" would fit?

Iraq War
When ~ enters the battlefield, put 2 10billiondollar counters on it.
Cumulative upkeep - Put 3 10billiondollar counters on ~.
Whenever a Mercenary enters the battlefield under your control, remove a 10billiondollar counter from ~ and put a 10billiondollar counter on that creature.

@CMeister2: Ha! Funny... but it doesn't come with consequences. We're just throwing money around. Hold it... precient?
