Grizzly Bears + Flow burner

Heh; I'm doing well for randoming vanillas, aren't I?

Ok, the vanilla of vanillas; and a red 2/1 that's 3/1 on the attack, plus twiddly bits.

So; flavour mash? Bears that knock down trees, and ... I'm not sure what that is, actually? No creature type, and it sounds like it's a part from a bunsen burner.

Bears that are on fire?

The 'most vanilla' implementation of 'cares about mountains'?

SO; ok - red doesn't GET a grizzly. It gets something with a drawback and tribal. At {r}{r} it gets some pretty nice pure-upside creatures. Including the Boros Guildmage which has abilities as though it's more expensive than {r}{r} when actually it's cheaper.

Ok; the vanilla version of 'cares about mountains' is Firebreathing

A firebreathing 2/2? Guidelines say a combat effect like that should be uncommon now. Which makes me wonder how Fiery Hellhound got past the gates... Ok, 2/2 firebreathing is sure not on the cards. Howsabout a smaller one? Bellows Lizard says you can't do it at cmc 1... Pygmy Pyrosaur suggests it needs a downside to be 1/1 at grizzly cost (while upping cost to rr gives you way better things.)

But then Dragon Hatchling suggests that you can swap that first point of power for flying. I'll swap it for haste, instead.

Power 0 + haste amuses me more than it ought. Hence, goats that breathe fire; in the manner of a fish that breathes water.

Interestingly, firebreathing is fine at common even under new world order. I think it's because it only affects itself. When the opponent is wondering what to block, they can look at that creature and see what it does, and not have to worry about the other creatures.

Firebreathing does have a range of costs. Note that Spitfire Handler is strictly better than Pygmy Pyrosaur.

This is an amusing tweak on Pyre Charger, anyway.

True; but it's still a downside. Maybe this could at least be 0/2 ?

Fiery Hellhound seems to be the canonical grizzly-bears firebreather (and I agree with Alex that it's ok for common), but for the 1-mana version I'd say it's about right.

If it were 0/2 it'd be better than Flamekin Brawler which wasn't super strong but was printed. I think haste is especially advantageous on a firebreather because it gives you an opportunity to crack the opponent for X, though maybe not as strong as flying (which can win the game by itself if the opponent doesn't have an immediate answer).

So maybe this could be a tad stronger, but I think it's plenty playable already. The only existing common haste firebreathers cost 3-4. And this is pleasantly simple.

Mmm. The space of cheap red creatures is sure cluttered.

Ok; I'll stick with this. you're right; it'll sometimes be a Fireball to the face, so that's probably ok.
