For Challenge # 064. Another way to look at CDEF is to focus on what's missing. I didn't want to lead with this design since this is an old card for me. I designed it and a cycle of four other avatars for a set I made back in 2007 or so codenamed 'Geraldo'. The cycle include:

  • An avatar name that expresses the one thing the fifth color could not possibly be, but that the other four colors were capable of exhibiting.
  • CDEF casting cost
  • Protection from the fifth color
  • An ability that doesn't come out and say that its hating the fifth color... but it's pretty clear who it's gunning for.
  • 5/5

2007 takes me back. That's the year I graduated high school. I had never even played Magic back then...
I really like the concept of your cycle. Looking at "what's missing" is my favorite way to design four color cards, and I don't usually like the results when I don't use that method.
