Mark Rosewater has made clear that Hornet Sting should never have been printed.

Yet it was. A lot of people in R&D disagree on this subject, evidently. This is a pretty flavorful take on the subject, at least.

Maybe you could get away with a 1/1 token that fights something when it ETB. Maybe.

I actually really like the idea of a 1/1 token that (possibly optionally) fights something. That seems to fulfil the same mechanical need, but still feel very very green. Or maybe even just "deals damage equal to its power" instead of "deals 1 damage" would feel more green, even though that's normally red too.

(I'm not sure if I agree with Rosewater about hornet sting or not. I agree that if any green direct damage exists, this is a good example of it.)

I think it's more accurate to say Mark Rosewater has made it clear that his opinion is that Hornet Sting should never have been printed, but his opinion was overruled by the M11 team.

I'm okay with color bleeding a little bit. (This was actually in an earlier version of Zaberoth, then taken out, then put back in again just now.)
