For Challenge # 044
Obviously this is silver-borderd :)
I think this is Timmy, in the sense that it's awesome when it works. This could have been 2 damage, but I deliberately made it 1 so it's still playable in limited, but won't be an auto-include in un-decks.
I wasn't sure how much damage to upgrade it to: I wanted it to be enough to be memorable, but not so much that it was just "win the game". Although I wish I had some way to tie the numbers and concept together.
I thought "birthday" was better than having a specific day (eg. 1/1 Jedi which becomes 2/2 first strike on May 4th) so wizards won't have the decision to schedule a tournament on that day, or not. I also considered some date far in the future "eg. magic's 25th anniversary" that would be spectacular when it came, but firstly, the same problem as May 4th, and secondly, I think this is more interesting if it happens sometimes.
There's a question of "will this cause arguments", but I think it's better than arm wrestling or breath holding. It says "convincing" ID not "valid" ID, so the idea is the judge can adjudicate based on the best evidence available at the time, and people who are willing to lie will hopefully not be willing to make fake IDs, or if they are, it'll last for a little while before someone catches on and marhsalls some opposing evidence.
Bwahahaha. Yes, a very nice reminder that "Timmy" doesn't have to mean "giant monsters". I love it.
"Deal damage equal to half your age" on the upgraded version? Only an instant win if you're over 40.
Hm. How about "the difference in ages"?
