For Challenge # 038 and given the name "l" because I wouldn't be able to link to it otherwise. Assume normal copies don't have a face up name.

This is, roughly, a functional reprint of Voidmage Apprentice, and, I thought, an interesting take on Morph. I'm quite sure Alex will hate it. :D

Personally, I think this version has a number of advantages over normal morph. The reminder text is a bit more... but that's because morph's reminder text is terribly insufficient at telling you everything you need to know. I also expect this to move at 'special action speed', but since morph didn't think it was important to impart that information in the reminder text, I didn't bother here.

Unfortunately, the biggest strike against doing morph this way is the inability of knowing what card you have in your hand until you slide it a little out of your sleeve. By that point, you've already hinted that you got a morph. Oh well... I can dream can't I?

ISWYDT...

It'd sortof work, a little better than you think. Remember that the real DFC frame has the P/T of the flipped side printed in the bottom-right corner. Oh, except that'd give it away to the opponent too...

As for "special ability speed", I don't think so. It'd probably work like Forecast (Plumes of Peace etc) - the back side is "revealed" when you activate the ability, but then it goes on the stack. Except that has the "Shock your Krosan Colossus in response to the unmorph" problem. I suppose it could be like mana abilities in that it doesn't use the stack.

The cards in your hand problem is a big one though. Gosh, it's almost as if Magic was designed to work with all the information on the front of the card... :P

Actually, I figured out how to solve that. You just sleeve the card with the down side facing you... I mean, it's not like you ever need to see what the face up side is, unless you are a complete N00B.

Of course, this comes with its own problems: When you cast the card, you have to flip the card in its sleeve in a 'behind the table' fashion, which is prime real estate for cheating in tournaments. That, and it can be a bit silly, flipping the card down to cast it, then immediately awakening the card when it resolves, because you have plenty of mana this turn, and don't care... but most regular players wait until end of opponent's turn for that anyway, so it's only as annoying as normal DFCs at that rate.
