So, complicated buyback? I guess it works on permanents too, which seems rife for abuse

Actually, this let's you cast it any time during the same turn, so it's not Buyback, which you have to pay right around the time you cast the spell (I think it's after? Don't remember though, I hate that mechanic)

This is kind of neat, but probably a bit easy to abuse. I like this card though, seems balanced enough

Yeah, buyback is an additional cost while you're casting the spell

I wouldn't say it's "complicated" buyback. It's just a variation on buyback that leads to sightly less repetitive gameplay, since you can only buy it back for one turn.

On a creature this wouldn't be vastly different than Reassembling Skeleton or any of the numerous riffs on that ability.

Certainly playing in the same space as buyback did; but yeah, it's sufficiently different so give it a try.

i mean, it's also a kind of delayed-kicker. But that's because everything is kicker :)

Sometimes they're split cards!

To me this seems a lot more like Flashback than like Buyback, although it doesn't exile itself, so it's stronger.

Also, this doesn't have to be cast from your graveyard, technically. That might be the intention, but technically you could cast an instant/sorcery or have a creature die or discard an artifact or et cetera, and then you can just use a spell to return the aforementioned card to your hand and cast it for it's Resurgence cost.

Not sure why you'd ever do that, especially with how much resources it could use up, and especially if Resurgence is more costly than the normal mana cost, but perhaps if you had a card that said, "This spell cannot be cast from any zone other than your hand, even if another effect allows it" and gave it a powerful effect and low Resurgence cost, hardcore jank-players might want to find a way to do this.

@Froggychum, no, you couldn't do that. It wouldn't remember itself as something that went to a graveyard once it was put back into its hand.

Flashback's strength is that you can cast it from your graveyard at any point after it went there. You can't cast this on turn one and then cast it on turn five or whatever when you have extra mana.

This has similarities to Flashback and Buyback, but to be honest, when I made it, I thought first of multickicker.

"It wouldn't remember itself"

All my Magic design sadness in a nutshell.

Still a neat mechanic.

Oops, I already made a version of this mechanic: Pull from the Heap.
