Inspired by Uno "Wild Draw 4" for Challenge # 024

I'm not sure how much the "if there's no other cards you can play" will matter. Obviously when there's nothing else you can do is a time you want to do card draw, but it stops you, eg, saving creature removal.

I'm not sure if "if there's no other cards you can play" is well defined under the rules. Does anyone know? I think it ought to count that you can pay costs for, if you play mana abilities, but not forced to do use other abilities in order to pay for costs. But does that actually work?

Mmm. It's really tricky for the game to tell whether you "could" cast a spell. It miiight work if you say "if there are no other cards in your hand you could play if you played a mana ability of each permanent you control". But it's pretty fiddly. And I'm not sure how it would handle Mana Reflection and/or Fertile Ground. With that wording it'd prevent you from casting it if you had some mana abilities you didn't want to use, such as Ashnod's Altar, Basal Sliver etc, but that seems OK.

Pleasing translation of the card though.

Maybe you could have

"Reveal your hand. If you didn't reveal a non-land card with converted mana cost 4 or less, draw four cards"

I'm not sure if it works, but I'm not sure it doesn't work. The rules already has the concept of "announce a spell, see if you can pay costs (playing mana abilities as necessary). If so continue, if not, back up" so... maybe it just works the same way, except that you back up whether it works or not. I'm not convinced it's that elegant, but I'm not sure which cases actually don't work...

I agree basing it on CMC would make it a lot more straightforward, but I'm not sure if it's interesting enough then. Maybe there should be someone chooses a color moment involved?

Rules aside, I like this translation. It's certainly got unexplored territory and you can see where it evolved from. Also, it's another card down that no one has touched. I'm going to have to do a pass tomorrow, see which cards people aren't poking, and poke them. Tonight, I shall have nightmares where I'm playing a game of Mad Magazine as an interview for the people at Wizards. Then, I draw the "This card can only be played on Friday" card. And it's Friday.
