I invented this, then checked gatherer and realised it was printed as Witch's Mist. I wasn't sure about cost so left it as-is.
But in fact, the artifact seems to make more sense. Witch's Mist is hinting at a possible future set, but not very specifically. Whereas guillotine seems to fit perfectly: repeatable, kills you no matter how strong you are, and when you feel that first kiss of steel on the back of your neck, you know what's coming next.
By the way, I just kind of assumed you knew that the Flying Guillotine was a thing, but there's a good chance you didn't know that. It's both amazing an absurd. Here's the Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_guillotine
Challenge # 046 and Challenge # 068 popped up, forcing me to make a horizontal or vertical cycle out of a broken card that I needed to fix. End result? Reverse Boomerang, Flying Guillotine, Anti-Summoner Vestiments and Reverse Katana.
Alright, switched things around so the Reverse Katana got a bit more spotlight, an ability that reprsented more than just getting more p/t, and something that feels more representitive of a real Reverse Katana.
For Challenge Challenge # 073. See Reverse Boomerang for details. Originally, the drain life was attached to Flying Guillotine, but it didn't really match the effect, and I could see people forgetting it. So I bumped FG down to uncommon, and made a card more relevant to Extort.
For Challenge # 073. For details, see Reverse Boomerang. I'm still messing around with these. Originally, Reverse Katana was the (rather different) uncommon, but I think this makes a better upgrade to uncommon, since it's a more powerful effect, but doesn't really evolve the mechanic.
For Challenge # 073. See Reverse Boomerang for details.
[Edit: Card is very different now. Feel free to ignore the following paragraph.] I'm a little put off about switching up the timing on these cards, but I wanted to see some in combat activity... and the cards would feel too similar if they all provided a small bonus with the real bonus, which is returning your creature to your hand.
By the by, the Reverse-Bladed Katana is a real thing. Block with the solid rounded edge, then pull back, surprising your opponent by slicing him with a blade where the katana should be round.
For Challenge # 073 which randomly gave me Challenge # 046 and Challenge # 068. Make a vertical or horizontal cycle out of an intentionionally broken card, which I must then fix. Looking at the intentionally broken cards it looks like the only card we didn't fix... is my little joke of adding Razor Boomerang to the mix. So be it. I'll have to add another broken card to that challenge later, in case someone new stumbles upon that page.
Anyhow, I 'fixed' Razor Boomerang by returning the equipped creature, instead of the boomerang. Now you can use for etb abilities, or just to escape removal, or use it as an expensive 0/X blocker... all while giving you a bonus Rod of Ruin ability in the exchange. Common done. Moving onto uncommon.
Oh, Dear!
Excellent card! The timing is a bit off, I think, but I'm sure that that can be worked around. I think I like this card without defender, though. I'd love to look of shock on your opponent's face when he taps out for victory, only to realize that his field is open, and you have an attacker.
For Challenge # 073, fulfilling also Challenge # 044 and Challenge # 059.
I didn't really avoid a "hidden cost," though.
Does a combination of Challenge # 044 and Challenge # 059 count as impossible? Gleesh. Brainstorming. I might reroll...
“Oh Dear”, Said Tiger for "Un creature creep" + "Tokeniser"
For Challenge # 073 I got 45 and 50. An un card that parodies creature power creep; that cares about tokens.
Well, my first idea is "All tokens are X/X where X is the number of tokens you control" which isn't really Un enough.
A ridiculously large token is another option. Or one that grows stupidly?
