Ug. It's a pity, since I was thinking "This can get pretty hairy if you can sacrifice your own lands, but it's still not crazy, crazy, and most cards that sacrifice lands aren't crazy, crazy either..." Guess I forgot about lands that sacrifice themselves. Editing.
I was all like "This Rod of Ruin deck is going to ruin the current Standard environment." Then they had to go and print Spellskite. WTH! I wasted $4.50 on that deck!
"Wow, one of the power-nine is causing problems when they re-introduced it to the environment. Who'd have ever expected that?"
:D
Excellent answer by the way. I could see myself arguing with the rules team for this card, even if if I know I'd lose that fight.
Heh. This is indeed fun. Trying to pretend random gubbins are the tournament powerhouses.
I got Gaea's Skyfolk, for which I created Hopesucker. Then I got Artisan's Sorrow, for which I created Culture Preserver. (In between I got Mountain, which I decided to ignore rather than take as "print a harsh Mountain-hoser like Conversion".)
Spellskite? Yeah, that was pretty popular in tournaments for that kind of reason.
Bwahahaha at the whims of the random generator.
Great answer, though :)
Whoa. Pretty obscene with Terramorphic Expanse, let alone Arid Mesa and friends. Might need Sacred Ground's "an opponent controls" clause?
I, uh, kinda went the other direction. I drew Mox Jet and came up with Artifact Lash.
So re-rolled Rod of Ruin to come up with Fangren Stalker
I like this challenge.
As an example, I went to Gatherer and randomly generated Stone Rain. That's almost reasonable. So I created Pumice Fields to help negate the impact of land destruction.
If something weak comes up, like Gorilla Warrior, pretend its a legitimate badass, and we need to get rid of it, and not the cards surrounding it (I know if Gorilla Warrior was a monster, then it probably infers something else has gone very wrong, and the problem isn't the Gorilla... but just play along for the sake of this challenge.) Here's hoping someone picks up a Razor Boomerang.
For Challenge # 105.
Wandering Barosaurus
Same flavour as Foratog, basically? :)
Sylvanivore, forest eaters.
Yeah, when you design a card in the same design zone as Arcanis, it's going to fair poorly, unless you make it overpowered. I had a feeling I should have put "return all other creatures to their owners' hand" so the reward looked better.
Since the whole cycle was supposed to be Johnny, I did intentionally play down the Spike. Maybe I should have gone bigger, though, and drew six or so cards.... make the reward match the challenge. For what it's worth, the Avatar is wearing a nice pair of Glasses of Urza. That has value, even if it isn't as noticeable.
Not quite that rarely. If you play this in a Quest for Ula's Temple deck (where all your utility spells are in creature form), then you just need to draw yourself up to 9 creatures in hand using Archivists and similar, at which point this becomes Arcanis the Omnipotent.
Normally though, yes, I'd definitely rather have Arcanis the Omnipotent.
so basically the bonus is not a bonus since it happens like .000000000000001% of the time.
