Very interesting. Much more printable now that mana burn doesn't exist :P I think this simplest power level is interesting enough balance that I'd try it at this first.
Hmm, in fact, I'm wanting a mechanic for the rare dual cycle in the second set of the Clockwork Wings block. Might I consider stealing this one?
Ah, I see. I see what you mean.
Or perhaps the "Each player adds a mana of a colour a land they control could produce" ability, so everyone gets hopefully-useful mana, but it doesn't do fixing for the opponent.
Good call, that pretty much fixes it completely.
Yeah, ridiculously evil. If you can play this on turn 2, that'll be a win against most decks right there, even if your deck consists of 57 swamps and four Weighed, and against most of the rest if you put in a few doom blades as well. But I do like the trade-off flavour; it may work if the cost is upped enough that people are likely to have at least some creatures out. Probably best would be to find an upkeep payment, so you have to at least struggle to keep it on the board.
Eh, the templating isn't where its problem is. It's just not as interesting as I'd hoped it would turn out to be.
I kinda want a set of semi-balanced "Everyone gets an advantage" start cards, but "Filter your deck by one card" just isn't very enough for me.
That was my thinking - it's a huge disadvantage if the opponent can use it; but I didn't think they'd be able to use it often enough to make it enter-untapped safe. Any colour (or any three?) would maybe work better - especially since the opponent is more likely to get a use out of the mana that way.
A mildly evil version of Balance. Probably broken for its cost.
Definitely interesting. Too much of a drawback for a enter-tapped dual, as they still get enter-tapped plus an advantage, but could be on an enter-tapped any-colour land or an enter-untapped dual. I'm not sure how how big the drawback is: it's potentially quite a bit, but most of the time your opponent won't get the mana at a time useful to them.
Muahahhaha. Ha.
Perhaps "if ~ is in your opening hand, you may reveal it and cast it for
at the beginning of ???? // Each player draws a card, then each opponent discards a card"?
Meh. Didn't work as nice as I hoped.
Interesting side effect for a dual? Sufficient drawback?
It's more "Trying to emulate the confusion of a new player" who typically wants both the "I attack that" and the "I block that" without realising the confusion that having both abilities will cause.
We're trying to make it work like Yu-Gi-Oh? "Attacking players choose all blockers. Creatures cannot attack players unless the defending player controls no creatures or the attacking creature is unblockable."
Attacking creatures like planeswalkers or players is notoriously confusing: can an attacked creature block?
Provoke is a funny suggestion :)
How about "If the defending player controls any creatures, attacking creatures combat deal damage to one of them instead of to him or her."
Or "Creatures can't attack. Instead creatures have '
: ~ and target creature deal damage equal to their power to each other.'"?
..."All creatures have provoke?"
Creatures may be attacked as though they are Planeswalkers?
