Hah. Love it. "No! Bear! You're not becoming blocked, you already ARE blocked! This is not bushido!"
...now I'm wondering if you block a creature that is already blocked, is it becoming blocked?
What is the sound of golden-tail slapping a bear?
I don't know about the rest of the creatures in Magic, but I'm certain this one is not a secret ninja. This guy also makes a poor student of bushido. Sensei Golden-Tail must slap his forehead everytime the bear rushes into combat. I actually wonder if his text should read "When ~ attacks, it becomes blocked", but I guess you lose a bit of the joke in the process.
This is so close to being awesome with Balduvian Warlord or General Jarkeld, but just misses.
I suspect the answer is "not much"; but what odd things can be done with this? It's not QUITE equivalent to a wall, it can attack - and if you grant it trample it's actually potentially useful to do so. Or things that care about number of attacking creatures I guess.
Smite etc. can kill it outside of a combat phase; it can't be stopped by Mirror Strike etc. Outmaneuver almost becomes really really funny, but you'd have to attack to get any combat damage dealt anyway so not so useful.
Oooh, it's almost a complete combo with Tattermunge Witch, but the opponent should be able to see it coming. It does let you use her to grant firebreathing before you r attack phase, so then you could use something that cares about power?
Any other stupid stuff people can think of?
"~ doesn't
during your
phase."
There. :3.
Leaving it at random is less words, and probably funnier - but the card is already marginally utterly utterly useless as it is; so let's at least make it plausibly it might sometimes go off.
JM's misread of Swapped Memory inspired me to make exactly that card; with suitably un (but probably functional) wording, and a flavourtext hint as to usage.
Stupid longass wording instated.
...They do this on purpose to make cards less readable, don't they?
Ah, heh, that's true. Vitenka probably isn't aware of the stealth errata to say "at the beginning of the end step" on things like Ball Lightning though.
There are currently no cards that use the "end of turn" phrase without being immediately preceded by "until", so the additional expansion isn't useful.
UEoT expands but EoT doesn't
EOT didn't expand? I thought it did.
added 'creature token' too
Fine; make this an enchantment with "Sacrifice ~ at EOT" on the end; then?
I don't think the intent of old-wording instants with a colon was to allow that ability to be used multiple times, though. I'm pretty sure it was always meant to be an additional cost, it was just worded oddly. So that'd make this card only let you get up to 1 white token, 1 blue, etc.
Oh yes. Didn't mean to imply it was kosher.
But then Wizards changed it. Look at Oracle text.
Yeah... otherwise there would be some wise-guy who would argue you can activate this from your hand. For what it's worth, Visions thru Exodus agrees with you, Vitenka. See also: Sonic Burst.
The only place abilities can be activated is the battlefield, unless otherwise specified.
I don't think it is needed (especially on a mythic) but. It's still six lines and nice and cleanly presented this way.
Not to mention "Activate this ability only when ~ is on the stack", which Lightning Storm shows us is necessary.
Trying to find good wording for Cannonfodder.
Umph. Technically, missed the phrase "Creature token" on all of those still, didn't I?
