Because then that can't activate that one insane card that just ahppens to be a mana ablity as a side effect of its huge effect...
Also, the complicated way may not be the best way anyway. What's wrong with:
": Exile the top card of target opponent's library. If you exile a land this way, add one mana of any color."
I mean, the Obelisk is a mythic. Why are trying to restrict the color of mana it might produce?
Do you want this to also work for Llanowar Elves and/or Seething Song?
Yeah, but this SAYS that you can activate it. I think that trumps. Anyway, wording aside - seems legit. Always at least mill-1, a third of the time it's a mana rock of a random colour; and just occasionally it does something bonkers. I like it.
The intent is that you could add mana if you exile a land. Can that be made to work? I posted a question regarding this to MTG Salvation.
Not many mana abilities can be activated from exile.
rare -> mythic

"Keen Militant" -> "Keen Partisan"; removed reminder text from flash; added flavor text
Inspired by Eater of Days, Chronatog, and Fiend of the Hourglass.
I've always found the concept of Demons in colors other than black fascinating.
I don't really care for 2HG support, but this card admittedly seems like one that should really work for that format. So I updated the card.
The reminder text doesn't have any precedent (nor does "you or your opponents control) as far as WotC is concerned. That's why I said "I would have included" and also brought up how I think shroud reminder text should be updated for the post-hexproof era since it's something I think these should have. Instead of WotC has opted out of using them entirely and generally only goes for cards that positively affect your own creatures. However, the idea here with this being an efreet is that it has a drawback inherit in its 'granted wish' (though it's not a djinn).
