Yeah. My concern out of control a common this guy could get in a few turns may have been overdramatic. Especially since, most people will play him incorrectly, attacking when they should be pumping, and pumping when they should be attacking. Giving a little booster shot.
Indeed. Lone Bull got bumped up to rare, and this card got bumped down to uncommon in the process. Though I admit, it's pretty frickin' powerful. It's going do exile a land 95% of the times (sometimes, an artifact creature, I suppose), and the game will become "end this soon, or kill this creature".
I don't think the card is 'broken' as a 2/2 for , but it is probably less fun at that cost. Especially since it will now pop up in draft a heck of a lot more often, and on round three very often. Changing its P/T and CC.
Also, I claim no responsibility for how messed up Tribal is. It was my complaint for the worst thing that happened to Magic in the past few years in my Great Designer Search 2 entry. Quick summation: If they couldn't agree with their rules team, and just have the line "Encantment - Treefolk Aura", then they shouldn't have bothered at all. It doesn't add enough to the game. But, if they were going to go ahead with this plan, despite its awkwardness, they should have gone all out, putting Tribal on more than half of the non-creature cards, and finding more ways for it to matter.
Hm. A customisable Manabarbs. Exile something like Lignify for maximum confusion.
Worse than Clockwork Vorrac / Clockwork Hydra, and much, much worse than Steel Overseer.
I like the flavour, so it's worth tweaking the numbers so it's still suitable for common (which Steel Overseer obviously isn't), without being completely outclassed by those others.
Very cool. Could be cheaper, especially at mythic. 7 mana might be okay; Wizards would probably print it at 6. Compare Summoning Trap.
Hee. I like it a lot. I love how it evokes Evermind.
I think it could be cheaper: 6 mana is still more than Mind's Eye.
Ah. Heh. Yes, the "build around me" uncommon is a fine tradition, but alt win conditions aren't quite suitable for that particular slot :)
Awesome. You're on my flavor team.
You know, when designing uncommons for 20XX and 20XD6, I've mostly thought of alternative ways to play the game, and draft strategies players may be able to employ in the midst of a draft to get there. Rares, by contrast, become very narrow silver bullet cards, or slightly over-powered bombs.
But, sometimes, I suppose, a rare is a rare is a rare. Alternative Win Condition screams rare, I suppose, so it gets bumped up, and I have to design another "build around me" card for uncommon.
Hmm... I didn't think of that. For now, this should be fine, since the cards in 20XD6 are meant to be drafted in a local store, and, if there's any confusion, people will easily explain it to each other. Still, that's unfortunate. I rather like the idea of Hexproof on instants, and the idea that a few more instants would end up uncounterable, or unredirecectable with a simple upgrade. Ah well.
Ooh. That is a good point and a potential problem.
Alex: youre right, the rules define hexproof for permanents and players only, but the wordeing is exactly the same, so theres an obvious and unique extension (so las you say, ets just assume its already there).
In fact, hexproof for spells would be nice: it could replace the slightly clunky "cant be countered by spells or abilities", making it slightlyh better but not in any way likely to matter.
Although, there could be confusion if hexproof on instants means the spell has hexproof, but hexproof on creatures doesnt.
This should almost certainly be rare.
Hee. A sorcery with hexproof. The rules probably don't actually handle that at the moment, but they easily could; the meaning is clear. Also strong red looting, most of the way to a Wheel of Fate. Fun.
Artwork: A Goblin juggling lava axes. Badly :)
