That's beautifully evil. Actually quite comparable to Burning-Tree Shaman, except with the sneaky symmetry-breaking lifegain. (And in a completely different colour combination...)

Do you think it's doing too much, with both the tax and benefit from it? I wonder if this should be two cards.

This is even worse with Angel of Jubilation.

True, but that combination is at least symmetric. Of course, you can build your deck to break the symmetry, but then you could just be playing Linvala, Keeper of Silence.

Combine with cards that your opponents will be tempted to activate in multiplayer games. Unifying Theory, Excavation and Sailmonger spring to mind.

­Unifying Theory is a triggered ability. Also, it's an enchantment.

@Alex: Well, Linvala doesn't shut down artifacts or nonbasic lands.
