Turns almost into an Archaeomancer

Pretty cool idea. I almost wish the 1st side did something a little more than be a vanilla 1/1 creature though, or for the 2nd side to have a little more to it. To do too much more might be inappropriate or unbalanced though.

Put flying on the second side perhaps?

That's one possibility to make it feel better.

The one thing about this that's a little feel bad, comparing it to Archaeomancer, is that you're basically jumping through extra hoops and paying extra mana for the same thing. With the one exception that you get a 2/2 creature instead of 1/2. But the payoff could be better or more useful than that.

Another thought, to link it to the instant or sorcery theme, is to give the 1st side prowess.

The transformation cost could be reduced to {3}{u} or {2}{u}{u}. If we are going to give a side prowess it should be the second, give more insensitive to flip rather than not wanting to because you lose prowess.

Good ideas, I'm on board with that. But please, if you edit somebody else's card, write exactly what you did. The last edit was what exactly?

Let's keep in mind that this is a common, though. It doesn't need to have lots of different abilities and synergy with itself to be viable, that should be left for higher rarities.

I believe that last editing was actually me coding it into the slot.

While this doesn't have to be synergetic, my reason for suggesting prowess or something else is that I take the card as being an overcosted Archaeomancer in a roundabout way, so adding something other than just +1/+0 makes the higher cost make more sense to me. I'd rather just play Archaeomancer than pay extra mana and jump through the hoop of transforming this one in plain form.

I'd like this to have better stats before transforming. Maybe prowess on the front? Maybe add p/t and mana cost? Maybe add "When ~ enters the battlefield, you mill 3"?

At that point I think it makes the cards very convoluted for a common. Would rather just make it a 2/2 on the front side.

Agreed, let's keep a Common DFC simple. Prowess on both sides + an activated ability + a triggered ability is way too much for a Common. Better stats are doable though, 1/2 is about average for {u} with ability.

Yea I figure 2/2 on the front is okay.

Note: blue has not yet gotten a vanilla 2/2 for 1C. This would be a 2/2 for 1C with upside. I was thinking more 2/1 or 1/2.

2/2 for {1}{u} would be a bit groundbreaking in {u}, 1/2 would be fair though. Can block a bit, not too aggressive and survives pings.
