Could this be worded to always be your first main phase? My thought was if this is tapped when I start my turn and I have a canister I can get 3 mana this turn all in the first main phase and then 3 mana next turn all in the first main phase. As it is now if I use a canister to get 3 mana, the bonus mana is in my second main phase and then I am back to 2 mana for the next turn.
A bit of tracking on this.
How about a simpler trigger ability, like a life gain?
It's still pretty nice, and that level of ramp seems kind of ridiculous
Fair to all suggestions. Actually getting this to untap though actually seems decently difficult outside of canisters. Life gain could work, but has a very narrow margin where 1 is a bit low and higher than that can be problematic

It would be better if the mana was generated right away but didn't empty until end of turn.
Good call on the not emptying instead of delayed generation. This functions a lot like something that taps for 2 mana but takes a turn to get up to speed. Is there any interest in finding something with a similar function without triggering on untap?
What is the coolest thing lost if this looks more like Zhur-Taa Druid
I'd prefer the zhur-taa approach.
